Does anyone have any idea what unsupported os means? I tried to update my retro pie today and seemed to be working but then I tried to update scripts and now nothing will work when I do anything in the scripts part when you push F4. Does anybody have any idea what this is about. I'm computer illiterate and been watching YouTube how to vids but it might of screwed myself doing so. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

more info would be useful. I'm guessing you updated underlying os packages, but hadn't updated retropie-setup for a while. Old retropie-setup doesn't recognise the rpi correctly with kernel 4.9 - this was fixed some time ago.

you can manually update retropie-setup script by doing this from command line

          cd ~/RetroPie-Setup
          git pull

you should do update all packages after.

Alternatively if this is too tricky you should start from a 4.2 image which won't have this issue.

Yes I haven't updated it over a year, I got 2 sd cards and I tried to update them obviously but for some reason they are doing different things. One is like the problem I described in the post and one doesn't seem to boot up all the way, ask for retropie login but I don't know any of that stuff. Let me try and get some more info here and possibly a picture or 2 and I'll post it on here.

@Josh-I You are most likely on Wheezy Raspbian. This is no longer supported. RetroPie is now only compatible with Jessie. You could try updating your OS and then updating RetroPie. I believe this can cause instability and future issues. If I were you I wpuld start from scratch with the official image from the download page. It is version 4.2 and contains Jessie version of Raspbian.

Yeah I'm thinking it might just be best to start from scratch and be done with it. I'm just hoping I can put my roms back on it. I do have a back up on my computer but I can't access my roms individually, I'm still learning how this stuff goes but might have to start over on that which is too bad cause I had over 5000 games...
