PSXtoPSP eboots or bin/cue files?
-
Just curious if anyone's had issues with psp eboots, or are bin/cue files are a better option for psx?
-
@Adam_3D I use eboots because they're compressed and makes for a neater library for multiple disc games. That added compression CAN add load times, but not sure how much. I've only noticed it on a real psp with compressed psp games.
-
@Adam_3D i prefer eboots. Easier to swap discs on multi disc games too.
-
@Adam_3D
eboots are all around better. I only use them for multi disc games since I've already invested too much time collecting bin/cue's but if I was starting anew, I would go with eboots. -

Depending on your preferences,...
As a personal preference i usually use pocketISO + either popstation or psx2psp to create my eboots. That way i'am conserving massive amount of space by removing unnecessary videos while compressing the files.
-
@backstander i just replaced my bin/cue collection with eboots.
It takes some time, but it is worth it imo.
Not only concerning changing discs in multidiscs games (and the issue with save-states when changed discs with 2+ bin/cues) - i also got 15 (using 128GB Card which was full) Gigabyte free space that i used well for more great PC-Engine CD-based games. -
Tried the eboots with Metal Gear Solid and Legend of Dragoon. Both seem to work great. Eboots it is! Thanks for the feedback.
-
I have archived both, but if it wasn't for actually having a real PSP, I wouldn't bother with eboots since they prevent you from later being able to apply patches for translations or mods, they won't easily work with multiplayer games and I could be wrong but I think PPSSPP won't run as efficiently as PCSX. Eboots also give you problems with CD audio. I haven't actually done it, but I don't think transferring your save files to the second disc is that big a deal.
-
@BenMcLean Translations are super rare, I have one cd audio eboot I downloaded and it seems to play the music fine. You use pcsx to play eboots.
-
Oh, I didn't know PCSX could play eboots. Well yeah, that might be a better way to play for multidisc games at least.
-
@BenMcLean You can patch eboots. The same program that lets you create eboot files also lets you extract the iso/bin/cue files. Then you can patch them and repack them.

I use bin/cue files for single disc games but when it comes down to using 2 or more disc's i would use eboots instead just because it is easier to cycle through the disc's especially for my game SD Gundam G Generation F which you have to swap the disc while in game and doesn't work if you load up disc 2 to play a different timeline the game will ask you to load up disc one again.
Also another thing with eboots is that the file size ends up being compressed a bit which helps for people using something like a 16gb SD card (i jumped the gun and went straight for a 32gb and 64gb SD card) so instead of lets say 12 games from bin/cue you could have something like 14 games instead with eboots. -
Wondering. Does the psx bios work properly with eboots? Gran Turismo worked great with bin/cue, but eboot won't read. Also, does one need a cue file to read a bios.bin?

Yes it does work with eboots as well.

@Adam_3D u.s. eboot of gran turismo with u.s. bios boots fine for me.

While my testing is more seat of my pants than any official testing of times, I wanted to chime in.
When I first got my pi I ripped my psx collection to use on the pi rather than my old consoles that were going bad. I used bin/cue at first and then converted them all with psx2psp. Any difference in the load time is negligible. The pi can easily decompress the files at a fast enough rate to come close to the same speeds as playing the games on a psx with a disc drive. (One thing I should note is that my psx has had a sketchy disc drive for a long time, if it had a better drive maybe it would be faster. It's been long enough for me to not remember that as well.)
-
@BenMcLean Upvoted, lol someone down-voted just because someone prefers ISO's. I do agree with you, no EBOOTs for me, ISO's work fine I never had any problems switching disks at all.
I really don't understand why people use EBOOTS only with multidisks, you can use the same hotkeys to change disks with ISO's.

BTW you can use the same method of disk swapping with ISO's. The hotkeys do work. No need to convert them to EBOOTS.

I use eboots for all my psx games. It makes for a neater library and they're smaller in size too.
