FinalBurn Alpha - what's missing besides MK?
-
@matchaman the rom names should be the same.
puckman.zip
for example, has never changed the rom name despite the contents changing from version to version of mame / fba. -
@matchaman many. FBA started with a focus on shoot-em-ups and fighting games. look into classic 70s/80s arcade games and FBA starts to fall short. i don't believe it supports any vector games (asteroids, etc), for example. it also supports no 3d games as far as i'm aware.
you could put the respective compatibility lists into excel and run a simple comparison to find out what's missing.
-
I would say the two that I am missing the most would be primal rage and killer instinct. I would love to play the arcade versions of both of these. Don't think they'll ever make it to fba though.
-
FBA is also missing the optimizations of some older games:P
Rtype leo, cadash, ninja warriors, xmen, bucky o hare, to name a few run much faster on mame 2003.
The missing games are just too many to list here. You'll have to compare on your own from compat lists. -
@alrdtakn1 agree, Mortal Kombat, Primal Rage and Killer Instinct on FBA is all I'd wish for.
-
there is a dev working on the driver for the MK games but there hasn't been much of an update on it but he's also working on KI for FBA.
-
Wow I wonder if Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate MK3 will get proper emulation through FBA?
I would be elated.
-
If there are working versions for MAME, why is it important that they work for FBA?
-
Not playing on mame either AFAIK, but I'm craving for Naomi games.
Marvel vs Capcom 2, I miss you :'( -
Aaaaand, yes, I know, even if it were correctly emulated, it probably wouldn't run on a RPi3 :'(
-
@thedeathstar because those versions have issues. Mame2003 has a huge sound problem and speed is OK but not great. FBA is just a better emulator and someone could possibly get MK running even better than current RPi Mame.
-
Fba isn't a "better emulator". It does play some things faster and smoother, however, it isn't designed to be as "accurate" as mame is. I like Fba and prefer using it to mame on a lot of things because that "accuracy" is sometimes lost on me. I don't care if a sprite on one stage loads incorrectly as long as the entirety of the game is playable without obvious problems I'm happy. That being said I am content playing the MK games on mame, sound glitches and all (which is why it is listed as non-functional in most lists for mame; once again accuracy) I know I'm in a small percentage but I'd love to play some arcade version primal rage. None of the console versions hold up. I don't that a raspberry pi 3 is to underpowered to do it if it was done in Fba, but I could be wrong.
-
@alrdtakn1 FBA is more accurate since the emulation is recent and not from 2003. That can be a bad thing if it makes the games slower. It's why I didn't care to jump for joy when the sega system16 games we're added. Too slow. Another example, the konami 4player games and a few others were made unplayable on my 1ghz pi2 when fba2012 was updated to "lr-fbalpha". Neogeo (and cps2 i think), struggled a bit here and there on mame2003 with an oc'd pi2, but perfectly fine on latest fba. On a pi3 you won't notice but it's nice to know so I won't produce more heat than I already am. I don't have an emulator preference since the compatibility is all over the place. I need to use two fba emulators and two mame emulators to play what I want. Scroll up to my previous post for more examples of mame2003 being faster.
I believe there's a bounty for someone to fix the audio bugs in the mk games in mame2003.

I play almost everything on FBAlpha with only a couple games on Mame2003. I am using a standard RPi3.
