Hello everyone, I apologize if this has been done to death but I can't seem to find any useful information on the subject. I would very much like to configure Genesis/Megadrive input for a 6-button controller. I would like to do this via the RetroArch menu if at all possible, not through trial and error editing text files. I tried following an online configuration guide which directs me to press "Select" and "X" simultaneously to access the RetroArch menu while launching a game, but this does not work for me. I am wondering if something has changed since the online tutorial was made. I have two Logitech wireless controllers connected the the system, plus a wireless keyboard and mouse. Is there a key or key combination that will get me into the RetroArch menu while launching a game? Please let me know, any help will be appreciated.

you shouldn't need to go into the retroarch menu, and if your controller isn't configured, how will select or X work ? :)

even if you do go into the retroarch menu, it won't save any settings you make because that's disabled by default in retropie.

the way to configure controllers is detailed here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration#autoconfigurations

Try pressing the buttons set up as "Select" and "X" on each of your controllers and your keyboard if you've set them up already in emulationstation. One of them should work, hopefully.

As for getting 6 button controllers work for the Megadrive, there is a setting in the retroarch menu, under core settings that lets you tell the emulator that a 6 button controller is inserted, and that is what worked for me. This may be dependant on which emulator core you use.

As dankcushions said, also take a look at the controller configuration page.
