PC Engine / TG16 CD Guide (Ys III, Castlevania: Rondo of Bood / Dracula X, etc...)
-
This is a short guide compiled from my journey to get TG16 CD to work, specifically with the games in the title, but should also work for all.
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/PC-Engine
- Place syscard3.pce in both the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS and the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pcengine
- Make sure syscard3.pce is all lower case, including the pce.
- Make sure you have the right BIOS file. The wiki above has the has file for the most popular syscard3.pce files. Mine is the USA, and for reference it came to about 143kb. To compare the hash on Windows, right click > CRC SHA > CRC32.
- The ROM should have a BIN and CUE file. rename them to something simple, like dx.bin and dx.cue for Dracula X. All characters should be lower case. If you have multiple BIN files, you need to recompile with imgburn or get another ROM.
- Open notepad and drag your cue file to it. The first line should be FILE "dx.bin" BINARY. the bin and cue files have to have the same name.
- I have tried this with an ISO file recently, and it seemed to work fine. Others have had problems with translated games, but mine worked fine.
Post or PM me with anything you think could be added. One thing I am not clear on is if the PC Engine CD comes standard with the basic install or if you have to install any additional packages for it to work properly. I already had all of the packages, so I wasn't sure.
- Place syscard3.pce in both the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS and the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pcengine

@3870x2 why would you rename all your roms to illegible names? It works fine with full names with spaces.
-
@3870x2 So you read the official guide, which has everything everyone needs to get their games going. Then you basically copy and pasted your step 1. Then you added your unneeded steps of renaming games to simple letters....
K, here's my guide:
read the official github pc engine link, BUT rename your bin files 1.bin, 2.bin,etc./s

I copied the syscard-file only in the bios-folder and didn't change the names of my cues and bins.
Everything runs fine.
