What is the MAME ROW?
MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

I have U.N. Squadron for Super Nintendo from when I was a kid, so I'm really eager to see how the arcade variant compares.
-
First impressions:
All three of these games are pretty good. That's a refreshing change.
U.N. Squadron is definitely harder in the arcade variant than the Super Nintendo one, but the Super Nintendo version has way better music.
Zaviga's altitude changing is a really neat dynamic that most shooters don't have.
Flicky looks overly simple, but it gets challenging quickly.
I'll have to do more extensive testing on this lot.
-
After some extensive lunch break testing I'm casting my ballot for U.N. Squadron. If for no other reason than nostalgia. Having only one life makes the game a lot harder, and the music is cheesy compared to the SNES, but it takes me back to being a kid, and that's priceless.
-
Went with Flicky - nerver played it before and it looks fun.
-
Also went with U.N. Squadron. It was the first game I ever owned on my Amiga 1200 and it just brings back the days...
-
Hah. Had started playing UN Squadron today as it was one of the random selections from ES. I'll vote for that so that I can join!
-
Voting is very close this week. First and second place are only separated by one vote at this time. Remember that the winner will be posted on Wednesday at 8 AM Eastern (UTC -4).

This week's winner is U.N. Squadron

OK, so shots fired.
46930 is my highest score so far, I made it to the level 2 boss. Considering it's my first time actually playing this, it's hopefully not bad.
I struggled to type my name a few times - if you skip the continue countdown by pressing a button, it'll default to AAA :/ Still, this score I have PJT there. I'm playing with Shin Kazama (?).
I'll upload the photo tomorrow as I can't resize it on the phone to a size that the board accepts.
Have a good evening!

if you're on Android, this is an amazing app.
-
@lilbud Thanks! I'm actually on an iPhone, but I'll keep that for reference! I could certainly get an app to resize the picture, but I suppose I'm kind of lazy to install an app I'll rarely use.
It's not like I'll be kicked out of the MAME ROW club by not submitting the picture immediately, hopefullt - unless you guys changed the rules yet again :P
Here's the image of the wall of shame (both PJT and AAA are mine, 4th and 5th places):
-
@pjft I can just exactly squeeze past this, but it wasn't easy!
My current high is 49.130 at 4th place - same place as you, second level boss.
I'm running the plane in the middle, what about you guys?Funny how the autofire stops after like 5 seconds.. And did anyone get what the different powerups mean.. Blue = weapon, green = speed, or..?
-
I'm in!
Reached stage 3. Not sure if I reached the boss, it is a kind of fortress with several cannons...
Score: 86030
I chose that blond pilot in the middle. Tried a few times with the bearded guy because of his double shot and then realized that when choosing the blond guy we have more bombs. And having a log of bombs is very useful at the bosses. :)

95,630 for now
-
Wow, good job, both!

@obsidianspider Well done!
What's that device you show in the picture ?
