      Basically the same thing (non-volatile ram to save cabinet settings), just different methods to save them.

      We don't even know what system the OP is talking about : assuming he is talking about arcade and he has read the arcade documentation to pick the right romsets for the emulator he is using, there is still the issue of non-working games, however removing those non-working games might lead to more non-working games (case of the non-working parents with working clones) if he is using split romsets.
