[New Theme] - Indent. Supports Video Preview and Custom Carousel
-
@mattrixk
I liked the way it looked with the default font, but if I had to decide between the 3 you showed there, I would rather take Boogaloo than the others -
@mattrixk This looks great with Bubblegum or Boogaloo. I'm just not a fan of meta-data so I'll always go with a simple theme that just shows a gamelist and art. Only one criticism... Why no ColecoVision? Shame on you...joke!. It would be nice if you added it when you get the time.
-
Thanks for the input guys. It looks like Boogaloo is in the lead, but I don't really want to just "settle", so I might keep looking for another font tomorrow.
@AlexMurphy: I ran a poll a little while ago to find out the most used systems so I would know the best ones to target. The idea was to make images for the main ones, then take requests from people if they want one that isn't there. So, I now have a request for ColecoVision, and I'll get onto that tomorrow (or maybe later, we'll see how things go).

Boogaloo

Okay, so I actually really liked @lostless' idea and I've gone with the Ubuntu font, but in Medium weight. I'll have to update the screenshots tomorrow. My lunch break is about to end.
@AlexMurphy: ColecoVision has been added.
-
very nice and can tell you put a lot of time into it. I am just now getting into the theme scene and my biggest curiosity is with the ability to manipulate the carousel, but it has me stumped. Maybe my problem is that I am using the tooolkit and vers 1.5.7 of it doesn't support it?
-
@fnkngrv If you get the v1.1 release of the Toolkit, the version of ES contained within should work with Custom Carousels without issue. If you have a look at the BaseVid theme, it was created to give an example of Custom Carousels and Video Previews.
-
So an older version of the toolkit has newer features to play with and test??
-
Sorry @fnkngrv, but I'm not really sure I understand what you are asking. If you look in the releases page of the Toolkit, you'll see there are only 2 releases. The original release (v1.0) is just a bunch of fake roms with scraped images and gamelists, and a couple of extra bits, but no ES.
The main release (v1.1) is the full Toolkit that includes a version of ES built by @jdrassa that supports both Video Previews and Custom Carousels.
I don't know what you mean when you mention "vers 1.5.7", as the Toolkit has never had that version number.
-
@mattrixk Just saw this. Thank you very much. It's a very popular system, often overlooked. I appreciate you taking my request on board. Cheers.
-
@AlexMurphy No worries. If you have anything else you want let me know. I make no promises on time frame, but it's not too hard to do one or two here or there.

gotcha....I got myself confused with Herb's Portable ES package.

Is there a dedicated thread for the toolkit or no? Not having much luck being able to tell and have a couple questions, but don't want to continue to hi-jack this thread.
-
@fnkngrv No worries mate, I'm happy to answer any questions you have.
There are two threads for the Toolkit; the original thread and the updated thread that I made after working with Herb Fargus to upgrade the Toolkit. Have a read through both and if you have any questions, you can ask them in the updated thread.

hi @mattrixk !! Another fantastic theme. To me it has the perfect balance between metadata, images and presentation. Exactly what I was looking for! I just finished my collection of gamelist.xml files (https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10762/complete-gamelist-xml-for-popular-systems-covers-challenge-accepted) hence your theme is the perfect fit. Yet if you don't mind I'd like to share some feedbacks with you?
- missing Amiga theme :)
- I'd like to have one background color for every system instead of one color per system
- to have the logos instead of text for each system like on the Carbon theme would be awesome
- any chance to have the description text "justified" in some way?
- to have the rating star in another bright color (ie. yellow)
- don't take this one personally but I don't like the system image for Scumm, it's just a PC if I'm correct instead of the famous tentacle on Carbon! I miss it :)
Thanks for this fantastic theme once again. I'm wondering why it's not included within Retropie by the way... Thanks for listening!
-
Awesome theme, out of curiosity i was wondering if you take requests?
If you do could you make...CP System (Capcom)
MSX
Wonderswan/colourAlso Sega32x and NeoGeo Pocket doesn't fit very well.
-
I finally had some time to update my Pi and took a look at your theme. While i do like the overall look, i have to say that i find the systemcarousel sometimes a little unreadable when the background has a darker color. Like PSP is just a pile of grey.
I also noticed the problem with Sega32x, when it's selected in the systemview it doesn't fit in the carousel anymore.
Anyways, i have some requests aswell. I would like to have Amiga and ResidualVM added when you have some time. -
@nemo93: Thanks for the support. Feedback always welcome (as long as it's constructive).
- It's now on the to-do list.
- This can be done by removing lines 9 and 25 from each theme.xml file within the system folders. You can then set a single colour on lines 18 and 277 of indent.xml.
- That's on the to-do list for v2.0.
- Add
<alignment>center</center>
to<text name="md_description">
in indent.xml. You may need to play with<pos>
or<size>
to get it looking right. - That's on the to-do list for v2.0.
- I'm a big fan of Purple, so I'll add this to the to-do list.
- It's not included in RetroPie because no-one has added it yet. I don't know how, and don't want to mess it up.
@Omnija: I do take requests and those systems have been added to the to-do list. Also, thanks for pointing out the logo sizing issues, I'll have to fix that.
@EctoOne: Amiga and ResidualVM added to the to-do list. I didn't really have the ability to test the colours for every system, so thanks for pointing that out. I tried to match the background colours to the ones found on the console itself, but the PSP is just black, so I went for a grey colour. I'll fix it up.
I'm currently working on some personal stuff (rom, gamelist and media sorting mainly), and I have some major(ish) updates that I need to do to the Toolkit, so I make no guarantees about when any of this gets done, but I'll try to chip away at it when I get the chance.
-
Thanks @mattrixk much appreciated and really helpful. I'm a bit struggling with my schedule these days but I'll intend to play around with the tags you've mentioned. By the way, I didn't pay attention thus far but your theme is supporting PC-Engine and PC Engine CD (aka TGE/TGECD) and I was curious to know how to have a separate entry for PCECD as it's something I'm looking for quite some time now. Did I miss reading a doc or a post somewhere on how to do so? Any hint would be again much appreciated.
Anyway thanks again for the amount of work here.

Could you please add support for Löve2D?
I also love this theme so far!
