I'm in MAME, I hit tab on keyboard, I can see where I can adjust for just Asteroids. I don't understand where to map Thrust, Left,Right, Hyper, Fire buttons. I don't want to use joystick for left and right.

@stevefo just map left / right to the buttons you want to use for those actions.

@AlexMurphy I tried to do that and the button I chose does thrust and left at the same time.

@stevefo you must have double mapped the button. Ensure you are using a unique button for each action.

I don't know what button 1,2,3 are for?

Thrust is pre set to B. When I make B left it thrusts and goes left.

@stevefo Maybe I am missing something. But if the same button is mapped to 2 actions it will do both things. One does not override the other. Each button must be uniquely mapped.

@AlexMurphy I figured it out. I had to keep messing with the buttons to know what to map. I wrote down what each one was doing and changed them

@stevefo Not all games say what the buttons do inside the emulator mapping menu. As you map controls for other games, you may encounter this again and again. Generic descriptions like "P1 Button 2" are typical. This can be inconvenient, as you noticed, but it also allows you to setup controls for "ALL GAMES" and have the same controls mapped again and again.

@stevefo Glad you figured it out.
