GP-WIZ40...can anyone confirm if this actually works?
-
HI everyone - i have spent many many hours trying to make the GP-WIZ40 work with Retroarch. I dont see many references to it on these forums, but i read in other google sources that there may be challenges with MAME not see/find/accept the joystick pins and all the buttons.
Before i go and buy an IPAC2, i would love to know if anyone has been able to get the GP-WIZ40 work. I have a standard arcade setup with 2 joysticks, and 6 buttons for each of player 1 and 2. I also have 4 other buttons for 1P/2P start, etc.
Appreciate any guidance!!!
Thanks -
Hi @christof
I don't know about the GP-WIZ40 itself, but it depends on what data it is sending out. If it is sending out keypresses (like an iPac) then it should work fine. If it is emulating a joystick, you may need appropriate software to interpret the data.
If you are using a RPi, you could try a different solution, using the gpio pins. I have written some advice on this previously (https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10207/gpio-controllers-2-players/)

GPWIZ-40 is a dual gamepad emulator, it should theoretically work, but I'm not sure if retropie will correctly realize that the unit is 2 controllers and not just one with multiple axis... the same company makes the KEYWIZ which is a keyboard emulator, which i can say for sure will work without issue since it's essentially the same thing as an I-Pac2.

@simonster thankyou for the response. I will check out your pinout diagram and assess whether i want to try this way. I like the idea of a USB keyboard encoder like the GP-WIZ or the IPAC2 but i just want it to work! Thanks again.

@capeman
Keywiz works great on PC but it uses a PS/2 port. Would it work with a PS/2 USB adapter?
-I just got a GPWIZ 40 but it's giving me fits. I can only get one joystick to work and none of the buttons are recognized at all. I'd really like to know what people are using other than a keyboard to play games without having to write your own program to get it to work.
