Neo Geo X Build

@ruckage, small favor for a high res image, otherwise i would do it, can you include an mvs controls image without "menu" and "options" words as in my specific cabinet i have put two buttons behind the coin door to handle the "administration options" because i dont want people accidentally playing with settings, and i have removed the retropie settings option in the list as well, as i can SSH into it for anything...
if not bro thaks anyway, will just edit image myself and deal with lower quality image, again bad-ass start and exemplary work, as always...

@ruckage one request: when you do categories, can you please include a "shooters" myself and many of my generation (40) are not a fan of the term "shmups"
Being in that generation myself I'm not a fan of 'shmup' either but it was quicker to type. We called them 'Shoot 'em ups' which is what I'd label the category.
@linuxarcadeguy said in Neo Geo X Build:
@ruckage also shouldnt it be aes-controls.xml and mvs-controls.xml :)
Yeah, I was trying not to confuse people - I was going to label 'AES' 'console' instead as well. If I add more controls they will probably need a better naming scheme anyway.

@ruckage neo-geo missing loading & marquees: ---------
and the theme itself does not have a 4x3 layout just 16x9...I knew there would be some missing images as I was limited to what I could get from the Hyperspin website. I believe there are more wheel packs that would add many of the missing marquess but you have to be a paid member to get them. Some though like 'puzzle bobble/bust a move' are trickier as there is only one rom - it's just the in game title that changes when set to US. This is just an initial release though so I'll be able to add seperate zips of missing art as time goes on.
Already said about 4x3. I will sort something out for that but it's not a simple task as It will basically require a completely separate theme. I think I have an idea for it but you may have to wait a little while.

So, to be clear would you like a controls image with the last 2 buttons removed completely? Or do you just want them to be labelled with a different function? If you can give me specifics then I can make any control art that is requested.

This is better than the original neogeo X
LOLThanks:) - though judging from the hate/critcism that the Neo-Geo X received I should hope so :D

First off, a big thank you for all your work. Well done.
To collect and edit all those marquees and launch images must have been a big pain in the rear.It took me a while to pick all the right marquees and launch images for each system but I got it done. Now here some issues I have encountered thus far.
Video Player issue
Not sure about you or other guys but in my build I have to use the OMX player to play the videos since the VLC player doesn't do a good job at all. The downside of the OMX player is, it is always floating most top no matter what the index of all other elements are.
Players Icon issue
Another issue I have is the Player thing on the bottom-right.
I get these white empty squares.
Marquees and Images issues
The following marquees are just screenshots.
For CPS
cworld2j-marquee.png
jyangoku-marquee.png
qndream-marquee.png
qtono2j-marquee.pngI had the marquees so I created my own launch images and marquees. If you need the raw marquee images I can share them if you like and you can redo them your style.
Missing thus far was the following
For NeoGeo
maruko chan quiz game (marukodq-marquee.png)
For FBA or generic Arcade
Raiden II
Raiden DX
screenshot images issue
Was this theme meant to be a video based theme only or was it also intended to use still images like screenshots too? Because if a video is missing I get this here.

Unfortunately there is very little I can do about that, I can maybe add an option in the settings to move the marquee up slightly for those using omx player - would that be okay? I m not using video myself, just screenshots.

Another issue I have is the Player thing on the bottom-right.
I get these white empty squares. That's strange - I haven't seen that myself. My initial thoughts are that it's something to do with the gamelist.xml - could you post an excerpt from you gamelist.xml from one of the affected games (or upload the whole xml somewhere for me to see)?

Yes please, I'll start a missing images pack.

Strange - It should scale the image up (I'm not using any video on my system - only screenshots.)
My only suspicion is that it's another issues caused by the OMX player. Can you test it in the default video player and see if it resolves it? If so then it's a bug that will need to be reported. -
Where do I place the marquees pack ? And do I have manually edit the game metadata for them to display? Or will they auto show like the launching images, thanks

To be honest I did not expect to have videos for this theme so I am good with screenshots only. I just renamed the video folder to deactivate the videos from appearing.
Regarding the players icons, I know what caused it. For example, when a game is for 1 or 2 players I had the following entry in my gamelist.
<players>1-2</players>
this needs to be changed to
<players>2</players>
then it shows just fine. Of course the same has to be done for 1-3 or 1-4 players.
Yes please, I'll start a missing images pack.

No clue why the video players should affect the images but as long it works I'm good.

You could manually edit the gamelist.xml but that would be very time consuming. The easiest way to do it is to scrape you roms using sselph scraper and make sure to tell it to also get marquees (see the help options in sselph scraper).
You can then just replace the downloaded marquees with the ones in my marquee pack. -
If someone is curious to see this theme in action here a short video.
Sorry for the bad quality but it was a spontaneous thing and my phone cam is not the best.@ruckage
Thanks again for all your hard work. This theme is really awesome!
Now I only wish there would be some sort of profiles feature in RetroPie so that I can swap easier from Arcade mode (Arcade games) to Famicom mode (Console games). Maybe something that will come in the future... -

You can get some inspiration in @TMNTturtlguy 's approach:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/11499/change-es_systems-cfg-script -
@meleu @FlyingTomahawk i have already included a selection option for @ruckage neogeo capcom theme. Be sure to read the instructions. It works really well. You will need to manually switch your theme after you run the script.
-
Thanks meleu.
That I have installed already. ;-)
I mean choose a profile and it would be setup already with the right theme and all the necessary launch image options.
But the possibility to swap the es_system files is a good step forward. -
@flyingtomahawk do you run your roms off of a USB? One suggestion is to store your roms on a USB, save your images and gamelist in the roms folder. Simply change the USB stick and run the Es_systems script and it will work almost as you wish. The only thing that won't work is the launching screens, however I believe you can set those up on a per rom launch as well.
-
Thanks.
I just tested your script and it works great. Only the theme needs to be switched manually but other then that all works great. Even the preset launch images.
I can live with the theme swapping.Great work!
-
@ruckage can you put the launching images on github so I can make them installable via rpie-art?
-
@ruckage @skj About the gamelist fix....
It's should be okay if you use Notepad++ and scan for
<players>1-
and replace with<players>
of course a nice script will also do the job :)@FlyingTomahawk Are you going to be kind of Terminator in RL? (red eye on screen?)
Well done Famicom mod - indeed :) Is the joypad also selfmade?@TMNTturtlguy I will use the es_systems script for my next Pi embedded build. But not with the intention to exchange es_systems.cfg rather exchange /boot/config.txt
-
@flyingtomahawk
Thanks for posting that video, shows it off nicely and I'm glad you've got it working properly now. Love the Famicom - great idea putting a power LED under the cartridge flap. b^.^dAnd a big big thanks for the donation you made, that's amazingly generous of you. I really appreciate it :).

Sure, I'll get a github respository setup for them.

@ruckage YUP 'Shoot 'em ups' is perfect, i think its this newest generation "Gen Z" that uses Shmups...
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
