I dabbled with mame many years ago on a PC. Given the new OS and hardware, I'm looking for a bit of help getting me started. Defender has always been my favourite game so I'm going to start with that one.
So I got it running tonight. Dumped a bunch of Roma into the mame for all directory. That's my first question. I noticed there were two mame directories for roms, and maybe more. Which one would work best for Defender?
Then there are the roms themselves. I was only able to get one set working.
Well that's a start. Anyone who is a defender nerd who can help me get this happening - please reply!
      Cheers

If you're looking to get MAME working well all around, you should really do some reading on it. However, the short and skinny of getting just one game to work well is to make sure you have the 'Defender' ROM from the MAME rom set that matches the version of MAME you're using. For example, lr-mame2003 uses the 0.78 ROM set, so your 'Defender' ROM should be from that specific set. More information can be found in the links below.

            Thanks fellas

I know I'm being lazy - I'll have a read. The start of the learning curve is always the most painful!
