Change config.text for audio - for noobs
-
Hi.
Iv'e been trying to do this...Run at the command line: sudo nano /boot/config.txt and insert at the bottom of the file: disable_audio_dither=1.
to reduce the hiss that comes from the 3.5 audio jack, but I cant get it to work. Iv'e tried various sites etc and still can't follow it through.
For example, what does it mean when it says 'and insert at the bottom of the file:' where do I actually type this in?
Are there any step by step guides for noobs like me?
cheers

where do I actually type this in?
Are there any step by step guides for noobs like me?First, drop to the command line from Emulation Station by pressing 'f4' on your keyboard and then execute the command
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
It will open the file
/boot/config.txt
in a text editor called 'nano'. Once it's open, you can simply move down to the last line of that file, which should be empty, and typedisable_audio_dither=1
Afterwards, press 'ctrl+o' on your keyboard to save your changes, 'enter' to confirm and 'ctrl+x' to exit. Finally, type
emulationstation
into the command line and press 'enter' to relaunch Emulation Station.

@mediamogul ctrl + o? I have always done ctrl+x. What is the difference with ctrl + 0?
-
'ctrl+o' specifically saves a file. 'ctrl+x' is meant to exit a file, which will then ask you if you want to save. Either will work in the long run.

@mediamogul got. Thanks. I figured that was the issue. I just had never used it.

@mediamogul
Thank for the help, Iv'e attached a pic of where I am entering the text, is this correct?

Good as gold.

@mediamogul big help, thank you.

Haven't heard of this little tweak before. Do you notice a difference in sound quality? Better? Cleaner?

@ohmycommodore
It hasn't stopped it, but I think it's less noticeable.
