How to replicate the problem: Start the game and it simply runs through the death animations. The log seems to bear this out.I've followed all of the instructions to the letter (so far as I can tell). I've tested on 2 separate Pi3's - one about 6 months ago and one tonight, with the same outcome. I've installed Daphne on my PC and using the Dragon's Lair DVD-Video 20th Anniversary edition DVD have set it up to work on PC. Seems to work well. I've transferred all relevant files onto the Pi into the correct folders and created the lair.commands file. However, despite installing it twice, I'm still getting the same outcome - start the game (press 1 and 5) and then Dragon's Lair starts but all that happens is that the death animations run through.
daphne_log.txt appears below.

@spud11 Am I reading the log correctly that your ROM is the F2 version? I think you should check your lair.commands file and carefully look over your DIP switch settings. It looks like you have bank 0 (A) switch 3 and 7 set to "0" (OFF). If you are using the F2 ROM, that will put the game into engineer's diagnostic mode. See here.
Each rom leverages the DIP switches differently, so you cannot use the same strings of ones and zeros for the DIP switch banks interchangeably. You really need to read what they do for the ROM version you are using. I suggest renaming your lair.commands file (or delete it) and trying with all defaults (no commands file) and see if you have a playable game. Then add back your command changes one at a time, being most careful about the DIP settings.

@caver01 Thanks!
Setting up Daphne is a bit more complicated than I thought. I'm sure that it is revision F2 of the roms.
I've now had a better look at the documentation surrounding Daphne and Dragon's Lair and have also found this thread: 'https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2403/dragon-s-lair-lives-change-question/2'
I deleted the
lair.commands
file. That didn't seem to change anything. I then changed thelair.commands
file to below based on the thread referenced above but with no real change as, again, it just seems to run through the death animations. I've now got bank 0 switch A3 (the 4th switch in the sequence) set to on and switch A7 (the 8th switch in the sequence) set to on:-bank 0 11111101 -bank 1 01110010 -blank_searches -latency 950 -noserversend -x 640 -y 480
For completeness, my
lair.txt
is as follows:. 151 lair.m2v
The new log is as follows:

Go to YouTube and search Daphne setup on the Raspberry pi and there is a good tutorial that's what I used.

@dizmodawg I'm assuming you mean ETAPRIME's video. If so, I have now watched it and it was helpful, thanks.
I'd set everything up correctly but having watched the back half of the video where ETAPRIME actually played the game, I realised that I was just soft - that the game wasn't running through the death animations as I thought, but that in fact I was actually playing the game without realising it, and that I was just totally and utterly rubbish at it and dying every single time.
I think I might just put this game to one side for the time being.....

This should help.

@spud11
Yes that is correct eta prime.
