What games are you playing this week? 2017-06-26

I have been playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD which is on sale on Steam for $2.99 right now. It is an 2.5D Metroidvania side-stroller platformer. It might not be as hard as every other Castlevania games but it has a decent story with cool cut scenes. I believe this game first came out on the 3DS and later an HD remake was put out on the PS3/X360 and then a year later the HD version was ported over to PC/Steam. BTW: I've been playing it on my RPi using Moonlight even though I had a small issue with my controller mapping but that has all been resolved! I'm about 9 hours into the game and I think I'm just barley halfway through it.

The Super Mario Land 2 DX project looks like it's coming along nicely.
That does look pretty fun! Let us all know when it's finished ;-)
-
@backstander Haha, it's not my project, but when I see the project posted, I'll be sure to let everyone know. I'm not sure how it will be released.
-
I'm playing Paper Mario on N64. Pretty cool game. I thought it was going to be a platformer, but have quickly learnt its more like the sequel to Super Mario RPG. I am enjoying it and love the aesthetic. I can see why many love Paper Mario.
-
After a few days of playing it I can safely say that Ever Oasis has hooked me like no other "new" game in a long time. If you have a 3DS, I really recommend checking it out. It has that excellent quality of pulling you in and making time fly by, well, until the battery gets low ;)
-
Trying to get further on Batman Returns for the Sega CD. I completely ignore the platforming stages and just play the driving game. It has really impressive scaling effects. Seriously it's almost like an early PSX game. Holy man is it a hard game though. Very unforgiving, but I really enjoy seeing the underused scaling capabilities of the Sega CD.
-
As I said in post #2 Terranigma for SNES - it's a fine RPG. I never was addicted to RPG but this rocks :)
-
@drake999
I thought that same thing about the Sega CD Batman Returns. I actually couldn't figure out how to complete the first area so I gave up lol.@obsidianspider
I really need to pick up a 3DS! You've been finding some cool games for it!@cyperghost
I've never played Terranigma but it does look pretty good! -
@backstander The item system of this game is really superb - kind of innovative for this time. I'm currently playing since 2 weeks and I think I'm on 50% stage. And the fun goes on....
Do you know "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars"?
I think Terranigma is even a bit better...But I may consider your tip and playing Castlevania - not the steam version but still the NES/SNES classics ;)
-
@backstander Yeah, you really have to work hard and persevere if you want to see those awesome scaling effects. Another great game the showcases the scaling capabilities of the Sega CD is Soul Star, but it has the same issue with extreme difficulty unfortunately. It looks absolutely wicked though.
-
@cyperghost Super Castlevania IV is the best in my humble opinion. If you are able to play that, I highly recommend it. I can play that for hours. Haven't quite beaten it yet though.
-
Rocket knight adventure. I built my bartop arcade and I discovered this game on a Facebook page a few days ago and it's really hard but cool .
I can't believe I had never heard of this game . I had a mega drive as a kid.
-
@beamquaker I'll have to check that out. I was a huge Mega Drive fan as a kid, but from where I'm from it was called the Genesis. Konami games are almost always good (well at least they used to be, will never forgive them for cancelling Silent Hills). That's a pretty awesome bartop arcade by the way.
-
@drake999 thanks it's not finished yet. I am just needing vinyl graphics and t mold now. You should try rocket knight it's a awesome game.
-
@beamquaker All of the Sparkster games are really well done. There's a SNES spinoff too!
-
Life would be terrible if it was a video game
-
Played and beat Wonderboy: The Dragons Trap (PC). Still working on Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
-
My game-related activity on this weekend:
- RetroPie-Setup: added an option to update all installed themes in esthemes scriptmodule (it was merged).
- RetroArch: added an option to show useful OSD messages to cheevos users after launching a game (it was merged).
- RetroArch: once my PR above was merged, I implemented that option in
RetroArch -> Settings -> Achievements
menu (not merged yet). - Actual gaming: River City Ransom (NES). By the way, @UDb23 has overlays and a launching image for this game. Hey @backstander , this game has some cool cheevos to get, you should try it! ;-)

Nice list of changes! And River City Ransom is a great game to play. I really need to look into getting achievements setup on retropie...
