I do actually agree on the concave button thang, when I was playing SFII for the first time, it would have made my life much easier!
I've already seen people on Gumtree here in the UK selling their pre-orders, one guy has 3 'available', all at £160. Absolute w*nker. Thats what pee's me off. I do still want one, but am going to struggle I know-but I think if I was going for one, I'd go for the Famicom over the UK SNES-the designer in me thinks the Famicom logo sits better on the pads and the console, but i love the box art.
Looks like i'll be looking abroad for mine (once I've sold a kidney of course haha!).

It looks like the photo I linked to was a promo photo where they did a palette swap and that the actual North American controllers will have concave buttons. At least that's what I'm seeing in YouTube videos of people who seem to have gotten units early.

@Danorak1981 I'm thinking that I may try to locate a European one. I have my North American SNES from when I was a kid, my Super Famicom that I put a Pi 3 in, and the mini would complete the intercontinental trilogy.
Then again, I couldn't even find a US NES Classic for retail when they were out.

My brother was lucky enough to get one-neither of us had any idea how popular they were to be else i'd have gotten one too. He's had a whale of a time hacking that, got quite a few different games downloaded and working a-ok.
I've had a good hunt around the UK intermewebs now, no joy finding a UK one to pre-order. Guess that'll be another missed out on! I'll start having a look for the Famicom but I should imagine my chances of success will be equally as disappointing! I'm not the sort to dwell, but it would be a shame not to be able to get one of these.

@Danorak1981 People are already "selling" it on eBay for nearly 320 EUR, LOL selling something they don't even physically own, thats against eBays policy. And to be honest, I don't understand the hype. It's just an emulator with Nintendo's logo stamped on it. The only way to get more games on it is by simply hacking it.

@PetroRie The way I see it is that the SNES Mini has certain meanings to the people who grew up with it, and it's those meanings that give it its value. I think the best analogy is to compare coal to diamonds; a big lump of coal has way more carbon in it than a tiny diamond, but the significance isn't the same.
For some people, the SNES is a cherished system, and it's the only way to get a physical SNES that they always wanted but never had, or might have had but had broken down, or was given away. You won't find a brand new SNES anymore, and the used systems on eBay cost $80 at the bare minimum. Cartridges are also exceedingly expensive, and there's no telling if the batteries in them are still any good.
Then you have the assurance that your hardware and software are both going to last. For all of Nintendo's faults, the one thing that they've always been good at is quality control; your system and controllers are going to be sturdy and responsive, and you probably won't need to tweak or troubleshoot anything. Heck, my yellowed SNES from my childhood still works to this day, and I still haven't had to service it.
Some people also love owning official copies of their games, and for old-school collectors that still love cartridges, this is literally the only way to own an official copy of Starfox 2, even if it isn't in cartridge form.
Then you have people who simply have moral objections to downloading roms, and would like to pay for the games that they're getting with the system. Sure, the lineup is limited, but they're all solid titles, any of which are worth upwards of $70 as used cartridges.
The Pi can do a lot more than the SNES Mini, but the value isn't in what it can do; it's in what it means to gamers. Otherwise, a used SNES with no controllers and games shouldn't be valued in the retro gaming market at more than a brand new SNES Mini.

@Eldrethor Yeah but Nintendo releases this as a limited edition. I think the logic behind this is so not all people will get one, so what will they do? They will buy the Switch and play the older games on it. I myself think Nintendo doesn't really care about these mini's, they're using them in order to promote the Switch.
I still question myself why they didn't add Super Mario All-Stars to it? It would be even better if they added Super Mario Allstars + Super Mario World on it.
SNES is indeed a great console IMHO Nintendo's best console they ever released so far. I mean take a look at the DKC series, they are timeless. Even now the graphics and the music of that franchise is just AWESOME!
I also don't like what scalpers are doing, they're even listing the SNES mini on eBay while they don't even own the thing?!?! If I would have two or more, I simply would sell it for the price I bought it to someone who really cares about it, someone who would cherish it's value. I've seen a NES mini going for 1000EUR. That's sick. IMHO it's the people who want this who're supporting this. I think there are a couple groups; one group of serious gamers and who really want to have it because they loved the games so much, the second group; they don't care they want it just so they can sell it. Nintendo simply could end this if they added the NES and SNES mini to their regular production line.
I really wonder if they're going to make a Mini Nintendo 64.
