Possible website issues last night
-
Was there any website issues last night? It was around 4AM GMT. I Googled RetroPie and clicked the link but it kept closing the connection. 503 connection refused. The first time I even received a "ransomware" banner ad. I have an older PC with XP running Opera and it was doing the same thing (minus pop-ups). Testing on an iPad it was fine with no issues though.
I did a bunch of scans on my PC and it came back clean so I left it until this morning and everything was working at that point.

I have no idea what happened. Both PC's are clean of malware. One is 7 Pro using IE and the other XP using Opera (for legacy gaming). I flushed both browser's caches and still couldn't connect, both of those PC's are wired. The XP PC I don't really get online with so I knew it should be clean. The tablet is running Safari and wireless obviously and it had no issues. The other thing is I had no issues connecting to any other sites from MSN, Hotmail, Google, Yahoo, etc. All 3 devices are NAT'd behind the same router.
Usually a 503 error is associated to something like transient or latency issues or where the host refuses the connection for one reason or another. Distance to origin, transient router, wrong port, etc. is a very generic message that covers to many things. I wish I would have been thinking to do a packet capture but I panicked for a minute thinking I might have had some type of ransomware (my worst case scenario) and it was late. I just can't explain what happened as everything was fine before going to work this morning. If it happens again I'll fire up Wireshark as we use it frequently at work and it gives you a pretty good idea where to look.

The site was down for some hours as I fell asleep during an update :-)
