My setup is out of box Retropie 4.2.
For some strange reason only N64 games show a big FPS counter and I can't find any way to turn it off?

@ckp you can turn it off within the /opt/retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg (it's in the bottom GLideN64 section). be warned: the FPS counter bizarrely fixes some bugs, so when you turn it off you may get some problems: https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/issues/1428#issuecomment-288504888

@dankcushions , thanks for letting me know how to turn it off. That is bizarre! due to the bugs, i guess i will leave it on.

is there a better n64 emulator to use with Retropie?
