      Will unpligging my raspberry pi3 corrupt my sd card? If so how can i safely shutdown retropie to avoid corrupting my sd card?

        you can shut it down from ES, a terminal, or you can wire up a button to the GPIO pins with some code behind it do properly shutdown. I did the last option so if it hangs up I can still safely shut it down.

          I seen a video where you have to copy a bunch of codes and install a button on pins 5 and 6. Is that what your talking about?

            Not sure what the video is you're referring too but there are many examples of how to do it.

              This is very similar to what I did.

                The video i saw was a lot mor codes. How did you put that code that you just posted into the raspberry?

                    @s1naloa10 as far as shutting down without a button, in emulationstation, press start, scroll down to quit, and then choose shutdown.

                        The most famous/traditional/naive method is doing what @edmaul69 suggested:
                        press start, scroll down to quit, and then choose shutdown system.

                        Isn't it enough for you? In the OP you don't say anything about butons and GPIO.
