Doom not working any more or something?

Hello!!
Well i felt like playing doom today i recently reinstalled retropie so i havent installed it yet so i went ahead and went to retropie setup then manage packages optional packages select plrboom the doom 1 and 2 port once it was done i exit out restart emulationstation then i select my port and start up doom the weird thing is the game starts up but i cant get past the menu screen of i press new game or options nothing happens it wont load i cant even exit the game unless i press start+select but yeah when i click new game ill just get a blank screen with the doom picture the game wont start none of the menu options work not sure how i can fix this?
But is love to do a playthrough
