Things like this should not be buried in the forums. Thanks for adding it :)

Have you tried CastleVania - SOTN with this enabled.
I'm getting graphical glitches. White flashing bar at the top and bottom of the screen.

there are (usually minor) graphical glitches in many games with it enabled. if you turn off the speedhack:
pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "disabled"
they should go away, but the frame-rates will dip. -
Would having the video smoothing true have a negative effect when neon is enabled? For some reason enabling neon makes scan lines visible with slightly more jagged text. I have smoothing set to true.
-
@dankcushions Thanks. I did try that but still glitches. I turned the enhancements off and just enabled a decent shader so it looks decent now.
-
@Drokkeh
ahh, i had the same problem and wondered why my screen was flashing! -

yeah been running this for a while. it's not the neon graphics plugin - that's always running. it's the 'enhanced resolution' and 'enhanced resolution speed hack' options for that plugin that we're talking about.
So which is it that we should be enabling? "enhanced resolution" or "neon"
In the wiki addition you made, you mention "neon".
-
@BenWlson its the two lines in the cfg mentioned in the wiki. they are options for the neon plugin, rather than the plugin itself.
-
Just checking this out - looks great on Wipeout 2097.
Just trying to work out if I should keep video_smooth on or off as well.I think as this setting
pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_enable = "enabled" pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "enabled"
is stored in the core-options config you could tweak it in RGUI as opposed to only at the file directly.
Does anyone find it needs the speed hack on if you are using a Pi3? I guess I'll play around with some settings. -
I have not found it requires the speed hack, but I do have my gpu_freq at 525 and just general overclocking but I have not found any problems outside a few glitches in the obscure game or too.
-
Sorry for my noob question. But WHERE is that option really? I cant find it anywhere.
-
@Tao it's linked and stated several times in this thread: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1#enhanced-graphics

I tried with Jacky chan stuntmaster, the gfx are considerably better. But even the pi 3 overclocked seems to crash and theres a lot of freezing.
I have not tried disabling the neon mod yet to see if that's the issue but Im guessing it is, as i have a pi 2 which runs the game perfect without the neon mod.pitty, it really was better.

@Twitch0815 Hi. What exactly does the Neon Enhancement do? Does it get rid of that full screen dithering effect? If so count me in.
-
@drake999 explained here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/118/neon-enhanced-plugin-for-psx/7 - not to do with dithering.

you must have some other issue, probably either not enough power, or an aggressive overclock. this shouldn't cause crashes or freezes or anything like that.

ok so i got a new power source it did not solve the problem.
But I have worked out why It has been freezing. It was the SD card !! **
So basically I took a different type of sd card from san disk and there you go.Now the weird thing is, when i go into the retroarch.cfg settings to put the neon enhancements on theres nothing in the cfg file. only this
Settings made here will only override settings in the global retroarch.cfg if$
input_remapping_directory = "/opt/retropie/configs/psx/"
#include "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg"

that's the wrong file. see the original post or docs. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Playstation-1#enhanced-graphics
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg

Ok so really strange situation,
Reinstalled retropie, did not put the bios in. PS1 game works fine. no freezes.
As soon as i copy over the SCHP001.bin into bios and enhance the gfx it starts freezing and crashing.pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_enable = "disabled"
pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "enabled"If I have them like this, I have no crashes anymore or freezes, but the quality has dropped.
I tried overclocking the gfx, that didint help. I can actually hear the sound struggling when I put the enhancement on, as if the cpu isnt good enough.
