Dreamcast emulator #Reicast, mac user, need insight
-
I've looked at all previous posts about setting up the dreamcast emulator and I still haven't figured it out. I've watched the youtube videos, read through many forums, and for some reason I just can't get the emulator to show up in the main menu. I have a new raspberry pi i'm running reicast on. Here's what I've done:
- downloaded Reicast through, file manager.
- dreamcast folder was created
- I put correct ROMs in that folder
- added the boot files to the correct folder as well
- The dreamcast emulator doesn't show up at all on my menu
I've tried to uninstall, and started over, and still nothing shows up. I'm using a mac to transfer files, and I've done it through USB as well. So I've tried everything. Any other mac users have any luck getting reicast up and running on your retro pie? I'm an experienced mac user, but this raspberry pi stuff is new to me. Every other emulator works perfectly. Just trying to get the dreamcast one to show up on the menu at least! haha. Any info would be awesome. Thanks!

@househero I forgot to mention I'm using .cdi for the ROMS for Reicast

@dankcushions said in Dreamcast emulator #Reicast, mac user, need insight:

so that's the games and the bios.
-
@dankcushions not sure if I totally understand the question. But the bios im putting in are: "dc_boot.bin" and "dc_flash.bin" in the BIOS folder. The .cdi I tested on the mac version of a dreamcast emulator, and it works. And I'm using emulation station with retro pie. Does that have anything to do with it? I just don't get why it's not even showing up in the menu. Does that help?
-
@househero almost. full file locations means something like
//RETROPIE/roms/dreamcast/mygame.cdi
that's what i want. or screenshot what you're seeing on your mac.

ok, here's the latest. I notice when I go into retropie and go into file manager. here's where everything is listed:
home/pi/emulationstation/gamelists
it then shows the emulators I have installed and that show up. Reicast isn't listed. But it is listed under:
home/pi/reicast.
Is there a way to move that file into the correct folder? I'm using on on screen file manager with a USB keyboard, so it's not something I can drag and drop. It seems to be installing, just not into the correct folder. IS this making ant sense? haha. I think we're one step closer to figuring it out!
-
@househero the location of the emulator isn't what i asked for :) i need the location of the rom files and bios files.
the emulator itself will be in the right place if you installed it. the right place is:
/opt/retropie/emulators/reicast/bin/
also:

home/pi/reicast.none of these are normal retropie folders. what kind of install are you running? this doesn't look right at all. you should start again from the retropie image. i have no idea what could be going on here.
-
I installed it from the file manager, from source, and that's where it's downloading to for some reason. Is there a way to start from scratch? And try and re-installing? I'm a mac guy, this is all pretty new to me, so sorry if my questions are dumb. haha.
-
@househero i think you might be looking at the hidden folders, which are symbolic links to places elsewhere on the system. they should have a dot in front of them. in any case, it doesn't matter. i'm satisfied that reicast is installed, but it won't appear in emulationstation unless you have games in the right place, which is why:
i need the location of the rom files and bios files.
-
the ROMS are in:
roms/dreamcast/Ultimate Fighting Championship (USA)[DCCM].cdiand the BIOs are in:
Bios/dc_boot.bin
dc_flash.bin -

gurumediabox? i'm afraid we don't support third party images/pre-builds. you should ask who you bought it from to support it.
or, wipe your installation and start again, following: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation

@dankcushions ok, I'll try them. Thanks for input. Hopefully they can figure it out! Thanks again.
