      Hi,

      I have a cheap snes style usb pad that I got with my Pie. When configuring the buttons map like this:
      a = btn1
      b = btn2
      x = btn0
      y = btn3
      select = btn8
      start = btn9
      l = btn4
      r = btn5

      I am currently building an arcade stick and I'm wondering if I should wire the buttons exactly the same way (this will leave gaps in the usb controller and make for somewhat messy wiring) so it ends up with the exact same layout as the usb pad or if it doesn't matter. I realize that I can configure the controls however I like in Retropie but was just wondering what people usually do and if there are any subtle advantages / disadvantages to either solution ?

      Cheers

        @mholsson it all depends on the setup and hardware. Please post details and configs to prevent guesswork. What USB encoder etc..

          Hi,

          it's a xin mo 2 player board. Will only be using player 1.

          I currently have RecalBox on my RPI and that seems to work fine either way - except that if input are accidentally configured for pad instead of stick it will still work if they are mapped exactly the same. Haven't tried it with retropie yet.

            you can rebind individual controllers so i don't think it makes an appreciable difference.

            i plan on making some changes to arcade default layouts in lr-mame2003/lr-fbalpha anyway, so they have consistancy. right now a 'safe' 6 button layout would be the 'SNES SF2' layout:

            Y    X    L
            B    A    R

              Thank you very much for your input @rbaker and @dankcushions - I will hook up the controls for optimal neatness then :-)

              Sooooo looking forward to finishing this so I can start enjoying Recalbox with proper controls.
