Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 3 B
      Power Supply used: 2.5 Amp
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.2.13
Built From: Had a pre made image that came with the 'berry. I've since updated on top of it.
USB Devices connected: USB Mouse, Wireless Keyboard
Controller used: 2x iNNEXT SNES Retro USB
      O/S: 4.9.40-v7+

Have run update & upgrade. Rebooted multiple times. In ES, I'm able to setup the controllers just fine. But once I launch a ROM, no joy. The controllers do nothing, and I'm left to use the keyboard to exit out of the game. Then I'm back into ES, and my controllers work, and then I just exit out of ES without issue.

      I've installing ALL packages, everything...

I noticed I did not have "gamecondriver" installed. So I've attempted to install it, and no joy. Getting error messages that the kernel source is not installed.

"dpkg: warning: version '_' has bad syntax: version number does not start with digit"
It is likely that 4.9.40-v7+ belongs to a chroot's host
      bulding for architecture armv71
Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed.
modinfo: ERROR: Module gamecon_gpio_rpi not found
modinfo: ERROR: Module db9_gpio_rpi not found
      Gamecon GPIO driver installation FAILED
      Db9 GPIO driver installation FAILED

Can some one give me a cut & paste of what I need to do to get the kernel source? I presume that's what I'm needing.

      TIA,
      -Jav

I've tried this to, (no joy as well):

Installing the linux headers package using the command:

        sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-kernel-headers

        Then

        cd ~/RetroPie_Setup
        sudo ./retropie_packages.sh gamecondriver install_bin
        sudo ./retropie_packages.sh gamecondriver gui

Trying to run this, but I get an error message yet again. Kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed. Just needing a little help with getting the Kernel source. :-)

@javelina1 Works fine here. I didn't have to install any headers seperately. I setup the gamecon driver from a fresh install, updated retropie (say yes to updating kernel, etc), driver install failed, then installed the fix. Not sure if you can install the fix if you haven't set it up first.

Thanks for the reply. So what you're suggesting the process is:

              • I need to re-image my micro SD with a new image? the 4.9.xx is what I'll get via this site, right?
              • Then attempt to install the gamecon driver after this install, via the existing retropie?
              • then update retropie, say yes to the kernel update, and then apply this fix?

@javelina1 The image is at 4.4 I think which is why the gamecon driver can be installed. That is the way I did it. If you don't want to start fresh, you can try to install the driver, and let it fail. Then Install the fix and see if that does anything.

I tried to install the driver and it failed (as expected), then tried the fix. Didn't work. No worries...

I'll be picking up a second microSD and will attempt to put the 4.4 image on it. I'll have it tomorrow...

So that process will be to image the 4.4 onto it.
Install the gamecondriver (and kernel update)
gamecondriver will show a faile, (but so what)
                  Install the fix
then go back in to RetroPie-setup and load the gamecondriver?

                  Sound right? :-)

@javelina1 From latest retropie 4.2 (4.4 kernel I think) clean install.

After you install the gamecon driver, configure it and make sure it works.

Update Retropie to latest (choose yes to install kernel, etc).

Update will fail on the gamecon driver.

                    Install fix.

                    Done.

Gotcha buddy. thanks. I'll report back tomorrow, after I have my new microSD. (not gonna mess with the existing one right now). :-)

I tried following the process steps noted above, and no luck. So I punted. Turns out I have a wired Xbox 360 controller lying around. So I've used that, and no problems.

I'll just await until a gamecondriver update comes out.

In the meantime, I installed a new 64GB microSD. Have installed the most current O/S, and ALL of the modules.

Really enjoying tinkering around with the 'berry... Also, I set my GPU memory to 128MB's. Hope that's a good spot for it. (The default install had it at 256MB).

                        cheers,
                        -Jav

@javelina1 Did you get it working without updating retropie? If you didn't, then maybe you have a wiring or config problem. Waiting for an official fix won't fix your problem. I also don't see why you changed the default gpu mem...

It did recognize my controller when I used the 4.4 image. But after all the installs, nothing after that. I must have screwed up my install process.

Regardless, I'm working with an Xbox 360 controller now. I'll await an update down the road for the gamecondriver and the 4.9.xx Kernel.

As to the memory allocation that is a side bar. Sorry to have confused you. I set my GPU to 128MB just for general purposes. It has nothing to do with the gamecondriver issue.

I'm good now, using the Xbox 360. Thanks for the help. I hope a "native" solution comes along to fix this issue.

                            kind regards,

                            -Jav
