I don't see any reason why the user has to install drivers to use PS3 and PS4 controllers via bluetooth, as detailed here https://retropie.org.uk/docs/PS4-Controller/. This is way too complicated, especially for users who will switch their controller usage back and forth between Playstation and RetroPie.

These drivers should be installed by default, and the pairing should be automatic when the user configures a controller, this works fine in Recalbox 4.1.0...

Actually you don't need to install the driver now. All the driver does is makes rumble work. The only bug I see is when you sync, it gives an error. But just ignore it and it works. Also the controller won't auto turn it self off.

That means the document is out of date...

What is the exact procedure to pair a PS3 and PS4 controller, then, if the docs are incorrect?

I tried to use both yesterday but couldn't get wither to work wirelessly.

I guess it is possible to make it work by going to the Bluetooth config. But with just one controller, it is hard to pair it there, since I need the same controller to navigate the menu.

I think it should be automatic directly in Emulationstation. I boot up the system. It complains about "no controller detected." I connect the PS4 controller via USB. It detects it. I disconnect the cable. The controller remains functioning. Same for PS3 controllers. This is how it works in recalbox.

@rsn8887 get yourself a keyboard. In retropie you have to go through the Bluetooth menu. The instructions are here

@lostless said in Install PS3 (Dualshock 3) and PS4 (Dualshock 4) bluetooth drivers by default:

@lostless: I see, well I won't always have a keyboard connected. I was trying to suggest an improvement that this should be automatic, not require a keyboard, not even require a separate bluetooth menu. If I wanted to play on a system with a keyboard, I would use my computer. I thought the RetroPie was meant to be easier than that.

BTW: I just realized this is only a 22 day old fix. I wasn't aware that this was so bleeding-edge since Recalbox has had this for about 6 months. That explains why the RetroPie docs is out of date then.

You don't need a keyboard to access the Retropie-Setup script. You can manage packages through ssh.

                cd RetroPie-Setup/
                sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
