Cannot get full screen on N64

Hello I am using a 36 inch Toshiba crt tv and I set all emulators to 640 x 480 to get full screen. But with N64 I have black bars on each side no matter what resolution I set. I am using a raspberrypi 3

@anthonyp555 36"crt? That sounds really heavy. Is it a widescreen crt or a normal crt? Which emulator are you using?

It's a 4:3 36 inch crt and it's about 200 pounds lol
I tried all emulators when I change the setting to 640x480 it seems to switch back to default setting in n64
