      Hi all,

      RetroPie v4.2.18
      Pi Model 3 B
      Power Supply used: 5.1v 2.5A
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.2.18
Built From: Raspbian Stretch with desktop v4.9
      USB Devices connected: Wireless keyboard
      Controller used: N/A
Error messages received: Could not successfully build retroarch (or) emulationstation
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide): https://retroresolution.com/2016/03/31/multipurpose-raspberry-pi-installing-a-media-gaming-pc-replacement/#li_step_by_step
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) Retroarch and emulationstation
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem: Run retroarch or emulationstation install from source, or "Basic Install"
I have been following these instructions to install RetroPie:

I've tried several times to install, but I keep getting the following error:
Could not successfully build retroarch (or) emulationstation

The only thing I can think might be wrong is, with this version of RetroPie Setup, there is no option to install from binary, only source. Every resource I've read recommends installing from the binary. Could this be causing the problem? If so, how can I install from the binary using this Setup version?

Any advice on this would be great, thanks :)

@rock1084 Stretch is not supported. You will need to use the RetroPie image or install on Jessie.

Thanks mate, so I should format the SD and use the Premade RetroPie image: https://retropie.org.uk/download/

@rock1084 shouldn't need to format, but yes.

Hi, i am having the same problem but i don't have access to a pc to create the SD card.

i have downloaded the berry boot image to my pi and i have got an SD card reader

Is there a way to do this from the raspberry pi itself? i have tried recalbox but it just isn't as good as retropie

                  thanks,
