      Good day everyone,

      I've been struggling with an issue using an Intel NUC7i5BNH with Ubuntu 17.04.

      I've successfully run the install script and launched emulationstation, however when launching a rom (for any system) it asks me to choose a default emulator. No matter what choice I make it simply loops back to the same choices. If I press Ctrl+C to cancel the script emulationstation crashes with the following:

      emulationstation: /home/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/emulationstation/es-core/src/resources/Font.cpp:129: static UnicodeChar Font::readUnicodeChar(const string&, std::size_t&): Assertion `(c & 0xC0) != 0x80' failed.
      Aborted (core dumped)

      I've tried searching Google with every permutation of "emulation station ubuntu crash" I can think of with no real leads. I'm working on this box as a gift for a family member, so I'm in no immediate rush; any help or advise would be much appreciated.

        Update for any future google searchers. I installed Ubuntu 16.04 and everything is working fine, I don't have a particular need to be on 17.04 but it would be nice to know why it is having issues for me. I'm still open to suggestions but in the meantime I’ll stick with 16.04 for now.
