So will the update be available to download through ES themes or do we have to do it manually again?
Yeah, it will be. You don't need to worry about that stuff, as updates to a theme doesn't affect the availability of the theme on the ES theme downloader. (Wow, I used the word "theme" a lot in this post.)

That new minimal layout should also take care of the long name issue. There is plenty of space.
I recently moved my setup to a 15 inch 1024x768 monitor and I like all the 4x3 layouts for your themes. The carousel icons are larger and the game list shows what is necessary and it matches the retro feeling.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing regarding long names. I think it should please a few people, @nj180grados being one of them I suspect.
looks really neat as im not a big fan of metadata in themes, personally id reduce the selector bar by about 4 letters/characters just so it does not overwhelm the theme, as for the long file names you do have the option to choose between large or small gamelist fonts.
-
I've now added a choice of 6 different no-meta layouts which gives the choice of 3 different gamelist widths as well as the choice of having the list on the left or right side of the screen.
Hopefully there should be something to suit everyone now :)GIF preview of the layouts below:

thats really cool having a choice of 6 different no-meta layouts,
i was wandering seen as there is no meta data now, would we be able to customise the box art so that no "published" or "played" meta data is displayed too?
-
Please make a 4:3-compatible of this beautiful theme. It's fantastic.

So much for me thinking that there would be something to suit everyone now :D ......
For now the layouts posted will be the ones available. I'm assuming everyone using retropie scrapes their roms so it's not like the published etc. will be blank. I think I have to draw the line somewhere as I've learned that I'll never be able to 100% suit everyone's preference. I may change my mind at a later date but for now you'll have to settle for what I've provided.

No, not yet, I'm still working on the update. Be patient, as soon as I've finished it will be uploaded and available to download through the theme manager.
-
Sure, no problem.

lol it was just something i was thinking about , im sure im sure i should be able to hide it via the base.xml

@ruckage this might've already been addressed but I believe there's an issue with the display of number of players.
e.g. "1" and "2" work fine but "1-2" and "4+" throw a couple small white boxes with what looks like an "f" inside on the screen. It's the special characters "-" and "+" that cause.

It's not issue with the theme, it's an issue with the scraped info in the gamelist due to it having 1-4 instead of simply 4, the theme relies on it being a single digit for the player icons to work as it's achieved by using a special font (if you go back to the begining of the thread I explain how it was achieved https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/12583/snes-mini-theme/41).
If you check the documentation I included with the theme you'll see I've made allowances for this, you can change an option in the config.xml to display the player count as text instead of icons if you wish.
Another alternative is to edit your gamelist.xml. Use notepad++ or similar and search and replace all occurrences of 1-4 and replace with 4 (do the same for any other number of players affected).

@ruckage this theme is AMAZING!
any chance at ZMachine or Apple II being supported later on?
-
@ruckage got it. Thanks for the detailed reply. Keep up the great work!

I should be able to add those at some point. I want to get a default system added as well (will require the latest version of ES) so that even unsupported systems will still display correctly.

Christmas came early today :D .
I received a parcel all the way from Japan very kindly sent by @FlyingTomahawk which contained a Famicom along with lots of spare parts. It's the first time I've seen a Famicom in real life and what a cute console it is, it's smaller than I imagined (much smaller than an NES) and is a really nice design. I'm excited to get started on a build using it now. Thanks again @FlyingTomahawk , you've made my day :D .
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
