      Hi,

I was wondering if RetroPie uses Raspbian as the underlying OS in the downloadable images or another OS?

The reason I ask is because I have some Rasbian specific binaries that I also want to be able to run on the Raspberry Pi.

      Kind regards,

      Neil

Yes, the download image offered by the project is based on Raspbian lite - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/ . Note that the image is based on the Jessie Raspbian release and not the - current - Stretch Raspbian.

          Thanks for the reply.

Very happy about the choice of base OS

@futurity Just bear in mind it is built on Raspbian Jessie. RetroPie will not run on Stretch or you will get failed / missing dependencies.
