      Hello everyone! I have been running RetroPie 4.2 on Linux Mint 18.1 for some time now with no issues. Yesterday I went to update it through my usual procedure and after I updated I get the following when trying to start emulationstation:

      terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
        what():  basic_string::_M_construct null not valid
      Aborted

      I tried all of kinds of things, checking controller configurations, resetting config files, I even did a clean install of RetroPie... Nothing has worked. Please help me bring back my game system! :D

      Thanks so much, and this is an awesome community where I have learned so much!

        Oy. Nevermind. Had nothing to do with RetroPie!

        For others, my case was a kernal driver issue with NVidia that was causing the OpenGL library to be unable to render the window properly. When I updated RetroPie, the kernel was updated and I had some older NVidia drivers that didn't get updated. All fixed now.

        Thanks anyway, and maybe my post will help someone else?! LOL :D
