      Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my buttons on my MAME cab. Was hoping someone here might have experienced this same issue.

The cab is running Retropie 4.1 and on it I've got lr-mame-2003 and MAME-4-All. I tried to play Metal Slug X on it (it only runs on lr-mame-2003 not MAME-4-All), but when I try 2 Player mode the fire button doesn't work on the second player. I tested some other 2 player games on lr-mame-2003 such as Street Fighter 2 and the first two player button doesn't work on that either. So I think it's some issue with the retroarch button config perhaps? I assumed I need to press Tab on my wireless keyboard during the game to change the controls but Tab doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure how to get into the menu to change the button config. Does anyone have any ideas? F1 doesn't work either. I've tried every key on the keyboard and nothing seems to get me into the main MAME menu that I've seen in other versions of MAME. F4 gets me in some kind of sprite editor or something and F2 gets me into a menu that says Hardware Test - Setting up Hard Dip - Setting up Soft Dip - Book Keeping - Setting up the code number etc.

I can hit a key when the Rom loads up to get into a config menu which has an option 'Edit custom RetroArch config for this rom'. But it just brings up a blank text editor. Is that something I can edit to assign certain keys? I'm just not sure what I need to assign here.

Or do I need to do anything in the Retroarch menu from the Retropie Settings page?

I'm obviously not an expert in MAME at all. I know it's not an issue with my buttons as they all work fine in MAME-4-All.

      Thanks a lot in advance.

      Michael

Hi dankcushions. Thanks a lot, but I had seen that article before and it seems to say that to reset the bindings you have to press Tab to get into the MAME menu first? That's the part I'm having trouble with. I can't get into the MAME menu. Or am I reading the article wrong? Thanks a lot. Michael

@retromikey i'm suprised tab wouldn't work if F2 works, but maybe it's your version of retropie. if you update lr-mame2003 via https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#updatinginstalling-individual-packages i think that may help.

@retromikey What about deleting a possibly messed-up default config? I have seen that a couple times. While other functions work, you cannot access TAB, and removing mame2003/cfg/default.cfg in your ROMs folder can clear that up. I know it is suggested in the link above, but it looks like you missed the part about deleting the config first. After you delete default.cfg, a new one gets created the next time you launch, and that can restore the ability to use TAB.

yes.. this was exactly my original intention - disregard my second post :) if tab isn't working, delete the default.cfg as the link suggests
