Since its known that the Sega Saturn is a 2D powerhouse I'm sure the pi could handle 2D Saturn games.

@redbatman you can install and run yabause (saturn emulator) on a pi and it will load. you can try a 2d game on it. i can tell you it will not perform well, though.

a faster emulator could be created, but who will write it? there is a saturn emulator that run well on similar spec arm devices (yaba sanshiro), but it needs a GLES3 gpu.

Damn, after seeing how many great 2D games the Saturn had I was hoping to try some on the pi. Well maybe if on the pi 4 if they allow custom GPUs it maybe possible.

Alot of great 2d games, i wonder if we will ever get atleast a 2d saturn emulator cos 3d is out of the question on the pi3 b+, some greatshooters as well, some newer saturn emulators are being created.

@redbatman hey redbatman, if we can try to get a hold of fcare , i know someone here talk to them,i think they thought they had stop, but from whats going i guess they picked up on low pc/single board users and they are doing a low end saturn emulator, heres the link https://github.com/FCare it seems they are calling it kronos but i guess everyone has gave up on the yabause for our rpi.

Last night i tired to compile there build but no go im not a coder but i use to do a bit on yabause for the original xbox and we did get either music was good or graphics were okay still was not as good.

I also tired to code on the lr yabause and then compiled it but seems no change , it had already been coded but i thought i try another few tricks but still i just think its not enough.

If your still interested or others to see if we can try to get theses guys to make a 2d saturn for our pi, i have hope for this to work so why not anyone else.

Heres a link to kronos http://www.emutalk.net/threads/57026-Kronos-1-3-0

                  Thanks
