8bitdo Nes30 pro Controller
-
So im having a huge problem getting my new controllers to work. i have looked around, and can see people having kind of the same issues but what has worked for them has not for me.
The problem is that when i pair them and have configured them, they work fine in the menu. start up a game, and they wont work at all? :(
I have tried different firmwares with the hack on of off, deleting the input.cfg
Dont really know what else to try. hope somebody can help -

First make sure the controllers are fully charged, if the batteries are low bluetooth can sometimes not connect properly.
Update the controller the the 4.0 firmware (or whichever version of the firmware is newest).
Turn the 8bitdo hack OFF.
Make sure you
set up udev rules for joypad
in the bluetooth section of the RetroPie Setup Script. And lastly, make sure you exit EmulationStation via f4, and get to the setup script via
sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
when setting the controller up.Also, read this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Setup-8bitDo-Nes30-Pro-Bluetooth-Controller-in-Ret/

@edale other than the hack, i have never had to do the rest of what you say to do. Can i ask why any of that is necessary?

@edale Thanks for the response. have tried it all now exept the
sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.shWas hoping for an easy fix, cause im to big of a noob for commands stuff

@edmaul69 I'm relatively new to Raspberry Pi's myself, but I've found that most changes you make in the Retropie Setup Script are best made with EmulationStation not running, else they might not carry over on a reboot.
From my understanding the udev rules are required for 8bitdo controllers to work properly.
I've seen lots of complaints about the 8bitdo NES30 Pro controller not working right on Pi's running RetroPie that were fixed by updating the firmware on various forums.
I followed that guide to set up my NES30 Pro controller, and had no problems at all.
@kiroi That one command is the only one you'll need to use in the command line, it's a GUI after that.
Though if you accidentally exit the Setup Script instead of rebooting, you can use
sudo reboot
to restart the Pie, rather than entering the setup script again. -
@edale you can go into retropie setup in the retropie menu in emulationstation and not have to do it through command line. But it is not neccessary to do it at all to set up the 8-bitdo controllers. Depending on the firmware you are using depends on if you use the hack or not. You do not have to set udev rules or go into retropie-setup.
