ODROID XU4 Image Anyone?
-
@sashby I think these questions could get better responses in their forums (OGST), but since you have a good system to start from, why don't you try installing RetroPie manually - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Odroid-XU4/ ?
-
@Sashby I was about to say the same thing, if you have technical questions or requests, it's better to post directly in the OGST forum ;)
The guy who supports the project (meveric) is usually really reactive and sometimes updates things on the fly if he can.For your issues, maybe you did it already, but make sure you've updated the image right after installing it, otherwise you won't get all the features and it will be probably unstable.
I don't use ES so I don't know which version is installed, but if it's not the last one, maybe you can ask to meveric if he can update it. -
after much work heres the ready to install image of retropie Odroid Retro Arena edition
for the xu4http://odroidarena.com/pub/xu4-4.3.8-v1/XU4-ORA-Base-RetroPie4.3.8-Public-v1.img

@reesk92 , wow you guys have really done some awesome work here, whats the chances of you guy creating a x86 img of retro pie, so its just RetroPie installed on the device, and not installed ontop of windows and so on. im not really sure what they call it, but basically a self standing img that can just be written to the HDD or eMMC card and booted. :)

@nickdg our team is mainly focussed on the odroid boards also pc comes with its own challenges as theres infinate combinations of drivers chipsets cpus gpus wed struggle to create such a thing unfortunatly if we were ever to consider a x86 build it would have to be for a verry specific build like for example a udoo x86 board
although currently were extremeley busy managing just this one board as it is now the image is out we arnt resting easy and were working on future updates and possibly at extending it with some of the enhancements people have been creating for es as well as getting more emulators working and the ones we have working better
this is our discord if youd like to come chat with me and ask more questions im kyle shellum on there

i totally agree, the amount of work, time and effort that goes into these type of projects is insane, i followed the Batocera project closely and specifically bought a Udoo x86 Ultra to help the guys drive the support for the board or just get a x86 .img going :), I'm no programmer or know much high level Linux, but i was there when images were released and needed testing. so that being said, when things are running smoothly and you maybe want to expand board support, id love to see an .img released for the Udoo x86 board.
Kind regards

im sure a few members of our team would love to develop a image for that board too its one sexy bit of kit if udoo wanna reach out to us and hook us up with some dev units wed definatley consider it but they also have a price tag that makes us cry a little and wed need to consider what the community interest is for the board as well as if its even worthwhile from a feature standpoint spending over 100 dollars on a sbc just to play the same systems the xu4 or pi can do wouldnt make sense so wed want to see gamecube maybe solid dreamcast and psp and potentially ps2 run well on one to warrent such a price tag but if it were to run those well im sure our team would be chomping at the bit to get our image on it

Doing that thing nobody likes.. opening an old thread!
Anybody had any luck getting this working on their end with XU4? I recently jumped on the bandwagon and I'm having a lot of the same issues. I initially tried to install it on a clean system as instructed in the DOCS but it crapped out when trying to compile and install N64. The one console I'm most excited in getting to work on the XU4! That issue aside, I was never able to get my EmulationStation to work right with video previews. I thought it might have been a codec issue, but later thoughts had me tangenting off into theories of absurdity (like a missing video player, or inabilities to play mp4). It just didn't make any sense to me. Whenever I would go into a system on ES, I could get my wonderful game list with all the game details and even the box art I had scraped. But every time it would try to play the preview videos a line of text would print out on my screen that it was an unsupported format. The strangest thing, I could hear the video playing. Other people I saw were having the opposite effect, able to see the video but not hear it. I just don't know what's going on. So I ditched doing it manually and tried the OGST method from the Odroid forums. It's a rough scene. The guy maintaining the build (meveric) is an awesomely nice guy and willing to help. But his image is like 3 generations old. He's running on Debian Jessie. All of the software is outdated in order to get the best running compatibility with Jessie. I can understand that. But it makes troubleshooting difficult when you KNOW you're not on the latest version of something. Right now, I can't even use my wifi dongle or my xbox360 controller which is supposed to be the only controller currently fully compatible! I've finally figured out how to add games to the device and use my gamelists for them, but I'm back at this stupid video previews problem! I was here 3 years ago when development started on that function in the first place. It hurts me to know that we're still not there yet. OGST is designed around Kodi and Rom Collection Browser for the most part. I don't like that interface and don't want to be stuck using it.
Anyway, just thought I'd drop in here and see if anything new has been done in the way of making this all work on an Odroid XU4 the way it works with Raspberry Pi!

@hansolo77 Try annother image
Batocera, Recalbox or the RetroPie clone - ORA.ORA is really good - http://odroidarena.com/downloads/
But I warned you about the XU4 ;) It's a good platform but not as well supported like the Raspberry - and to find a compatible WiFi dongle drove me crazy, too. The best combination: SBC + RETROGAMING = RASPBERRY

Yeah I'm feeling it! :) I'll get there eventually. I'm just boggled why the video previews weren't working. It's crazy.
