PCE CD stuck at "Just a moment..."

  • Hello,

I'm very sorry if this has been answered. I've been looking around and can't find the same exact issue.
I tried out the lr-beetle-pce-fast emulator the other day for the first time, with Lords of Thunder.
It ran perfect on the first try, no issues. I just tried to boot it up again and when I hit the "run" button on the Super CD-Rom System screen it gets stuck on "Just a moment...."
It doesn't freeze, because I'm still able to use Retroarch to close the rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • @matticus what pcengine cd bios did you install?

  • @edmaul69 Thanks for the post. It's Turbo Grafx CD Super System Card USA v3.0, renamed to syscard3.pce

Edit: After you mentioned that I swapped it for the actual syscard3.pce. Same issue. Is there a setting in Retroarch or elsewhere that might be causing this? I haven't touched it since it worked that first time, but have been messing with some Retroarch options while playing some MAME stuff.

  • What's the format of your disk image?

If it's BIN/CUE, try looking for a ISO/CUE/WAV. Or one of the ReDump BIN/CUE images with multiple BIN files.

Also, make sure your image is NOT zipped.

  • Make sure you read through the PC Engine wiki very carefully:

    https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/PC-Engine

The bin and cue files are case sensitive and must be identical.

    Good luck!

  • Since it worked the first time, and if you didn't update/alter anything when trying the second time, maybe the game's corrupted. Re-transfer.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried all of this, as well as re-transferring and different games. I have a feeling that while I was messing with settings to get other stuff to work, I somehow broke this particular one. At this point I think I'm just going to back up the roms and save states and start with a fresh Retropie install. I'm new to this and have learned a ton this past week, so hopefully won't make the same mistake. I'll leave this open in case someone down the line actually has an answer for what may have caused this to stop working after previously running perfectly.

  • Works perfectly after starting with a fresh Retropie install. So it was definitely something I did. I will try to keep better track of what changes I make in the future so I can hopefully figure out what broke it.

  • I'm actually having the same issue
A few games work fine, but others don't work at all.

They worked originally, then just stopped after a few updates to the system and I am trying to figure out what's going on.

  • @jiryn check your cue file and see if the case of the file name matches the bin file.

  • Yes, openining up the .cue file you will see the bin name. Make sure all caps and lowercase match the real .bin file including on the .bin .BIN part. Linux is case sensitive.

  • You can also convert all your pc-engine (and sega-cd too) to chd and call it a day while saving space.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/72kh6q/stepbystep_guide_how_to_convert_sega_cd_or_pc/

Also, get the new chdman.exe from latest mame. Each latest version improves on compression and/or bugs.

Yep, right after I posed my question/problem, I started up my Pi and decided to double check the naming/pathing. I removed all the gibberish people put in parathenesis in the game title, but forgot to remove it from the cue file. Now it works perfectly!

You guys were exactly right, thank you so much for answering my problem.
