So i get stuck at the date/time selection screen and have no idea whats wrong.

I can change the time just fine but i cant seem to press select to continue.
Emustation shortcuts like select+start to exit doesn't work either.

Do i need to map the controller specifically for reicast?

Here it says that it should automatically be configured for reicast when configured in emulationstation, which i have done.

So i'm clueless and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh sorry here are some specs:

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3
Power Supply used: No idea but should be fine
          RetroPie Version Used: Retropie 4.1
Built From: Prebuilt SD image from retropie website
USB Devices connected: FAT 32 HDD, keyboard and a wired xbox 360 controller
          Controller used: wired xbox360
          Emulator: reicast

I read the thread you linked but the issue there was that the date/time screen kept appearing everytime when launching a game. Not about not being able to proceed from it so i couldn't find anything that'd help me.

          Thank you for your help

Hmmmm, bummer. So does the controller work for everything else? In that case it seems like it would be a configuration issue.

Apologies as I have never tried Dreamcast, so this is only speculation. But have you looked at the configuration files? It seems like the native Dreamcast controller doesn't have a select button so it could be that Reicast doesn't recognize one. I ran into the same issue with N64, maybe this will give you a place to start? https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/601/on-nintendo-64-hotkeys-that-use-select-or-x/2

Oh, and if you need to know what buttons map to what on your controller, jstest is super useful.

Lastly, press Ctrl + c to exit jstest, took me way too long to figure that out.

well I had my head wrapped around several problems with Reicast and controllers for the past few days. I had configured the controllers many, many times with joyconfig, editing emu.cfg, controller files for DC, etc, and I finally found the source of my problems.

The so called 'automatic configuration' is broken. No matter what you put into the config files, it gets overwritten when you run Reicast. The script tries to identify the devices configured in the OS and assign them automatically. In my case, always assigning them wrong, so anything seemed to work (keyboard or gamepad).

The only thing that worked was to comment out the line in the script (.sh) where it gets the result of the "automatic" detection and put it into the command line for Reicast call. I dont have my PI here to see exactly the script name and exact line, will try to update this post later with more details. But you get my point.

Just commenting this single line and voila, my pad started to work and I was able to get past the date/time screen, and play a game.
