      I am wondering whether Emulation Station is updated when we update Retropie through the configuration script.

      In particular, if it is indeed updated, does it update it to the latest commit available?

      I am asking this because I am considering adding support for a theme background music to Emulation Station, but I am primarily thinking of this because I would like that in RetroPie.

        @antoine There are 2 update options:

        • binary - this will get the lastest pre-compiled version from the retropie.org.uk
        • source - this will fetch the lastest stable version available in the ES repository (github.com/retropie/Emulationstation https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/tree/stable) and compile it.

          Not exactly. It fetches the latest stable version. There is also a dev branch that can be installed from experimental for the very latest but unless you know what you're doing/are ok with potential bugs I'd just recommend the binary

            @herb_fargus Totally right.
            @Antoine so the source update refreshes from https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/tree/stable (stable , not master branch or ES). Corrected my 1st answer.
