Making PSX roms take less space
-
Hi, how can I make PSX roms take less space? Roms such as
Gran Turismo
take around400MB
to download, and then uncompressing that in the system takes lots of space. I need them to be smaller in size - is there any way for this? -
My whole collection for PS1 is almost 800gb. I run it off of a 1TB external drive though so space isn’t an issue.
If you only want a few games you can look into PBP format. It is a compressed version for use on the PSP (PlayStation Portable). I use these on multi disk games since you don’t need to change disks. Not sure if they are overall smaller in size though.

Alright, anyhow to compress it will greatly help me. Do you know how to turn the
.bin
and.cue
files into the.PBP
. If so... this will greatly help. -
I’ve never done it. I know there are tutorials available online. I just grabbed a few to replace multi disk titles off the Interwebs.

You can also search for "Pocket Iso" this will strip down some games.
So you can make Tekken 3 from 600MB to 70MB
But you loose Video-sequences and BGM -
@nicky_s14 With PSX2PSP app, you can convert .bin/.cue in PBP

I've heard of IsoBuster so I will do some searching around to get it how I want, but thank you for this tip! Is there an option to strip the game without losing quality?
