RetroPie 4.3.17 Stretch images

Now I saw that here is also a version to download.
Am I right when I expect this "beta" version to be updated one day to full 4.4 version via internet without having to format the SD?Yes
One thing I am very confused of is the so called "ssh (-session)". What is it, how can I select between those modes and is it recommended to not start it from a SSH session to avoid errors? For me it would be very nice and kind of important that ES can start automatically on boot like it is now.
SSH is just another way of accessing remotely the Pi system for running commands or copying files - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/SSH/. You don't need SSH access for normal operations.

@mitu Thank you very much for the fast response :)
As soon as I am at home again I am going to put the stretch image on the SD.
(Hopefully this time the ppsspp installation via source will also work.) -
@hazey91 Install from binary if available, no need to compile again.
-
@mitu is it just a rumor that installing from source can provide a better performance?
-
@hazey91 It depends on if a package has up to date binaries. If it doesn't, source will be more up to date.
Also, when is 4.4 coming out? I thought it was supposed to be this week.
-
@hazey91 not for specific harware such as the Raspberry Pi. It might help if you compile on a PC with certain CPU instructions. The only benefit from compiling from source is that you might get a cutting edge build that has not been available in binary yet.

Awesome, thanks guys :)
(By the way, I didn't like the original power supply I received with my Rpi3b+, even if it was doing his job. I want to try some overclocking soon and I am not sure if it can hold it.
So I tried a belkins 2.4A 12W for 17€. But already at simple operations it showed the yellow flash in the right upper corner. So I took a stronger one and I have a quite good feeling with it. But I kept the belkins usb-cable.

It has 3A @ 3.6-6-5V and up to 19,5W.) -
@hazey91 I don't really understand what do they mean by "3,6-6,5 V/6,5-9 V/9-12 V". The Raspberry Pi is designed with 5.1V in mind (the input current is safe at 3A). Sounds a bit risky, since I don't get how it selects the correct voltage for a device without any visible selector.

@hazey91
Be careful, USB chargers and RPi power adapters are often not equals.
Chargers tend to disregard power output regularity (you don't need regular power to charge a device), where dedicated power adapters focus on maintaining a steady output (which is critical for the RPi, but cost more to produce). -
Topic is now unpinned as 4.4 is released - https://retropie.org.uk/2018/04/retropie-4-4-is-released/
-
oops I meant 3A @ 3,6-6.5V
just wanted to post the original infos in general.
hmh yes you could be right.. but so far no error occured with it. I thought it can't be overvoltaged because the Pi would take only what it needs? -
Does anyone know how to get the WI-FI working.
I tried filling in the information in wpa_supplicant.conf but still doesn't work. -
You have to set the WiFi country in the raspi-config menu.Edited this post out, because I didn't read the whole post and literally contributed to nothing...
-
@moekatz2 Try running
sudo rfkill unblock all
from the command line and see if Wifi connection starts working. -
Thanks for the tip but I'm having trouble getting my second shanwan clone connected. I'm trying to pair as you said via the bluetooth menu, but just getting errors after select the ps3 controller in the device list to connect to. Any advice?
-
@mitu That did it. Thanks!

Hi, by running the retropie script it removes/uninstall the xserver-xorg-legacy package
i need it for one browser that is not working otherwise,how can i prevent it from been removed everytime? -
@residentjim Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
start a new topic and provide details of set up and what browser you are referring to. this package should not be needed.
-
This package is needed,not everything is working without it,is there a command when you run the scrip to bypass the removal of the package?
im talking about chromium browser,i
