      Hello,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but after an hour or two of searching the docs and the forums, I was unable to find an answer, so I apologize if I'm rehashing well-known information.

I just moved half way across the US and I don't have internet at the moment. It's possible I won't have internet access (at home) for months. I have a Raspberry Pi and have considered setting up RetroPie to play games at home offline... but am worried I won't be able to do that, and don't want to start if I can know ahead of time it won't work.

Everything I've found about Wifi makes it sound like its integral to at least setting up the emulators and getting RetroPie functioning. If that's the case, that's OK, as I can take it to work and use the internet access there when I need to set up or install new emulators/ROMs, etc., but once I do that and bring it back home, will I be able to play it without an internet connection?

      Thanks!
      -Matt

Once setted up there is no internet connection needed!
Of course you can't download new themes, scrape ROM data and update your mashine in general.
This doesn't matter as long as you are fine with your setup.

Awesome. That sounds agreeable to me. If I need new ROMs or updates, I can just take it in to the office with me and connect to a monitor and WiFi I have there. Thanks!

For roms, no internet doesn't mean no network, so if you have a switch or a router (or event with a direct cable) you will be able to copy roms through CIFS, and do SSH.
Moreover, you can simply transfer roms with a USB stick too, see here : https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms

Regarding updates, there is indeed no simple way to update retropie without an internet connection.

And don't forget your cell phone Wifi Access Point feature ;)
