Hi. Could I ask please whether there might be a way to revert to an earlier version of lr-mame 2003? My Retropie is now very complicated and I have decided not to update it, but several months ago I did update lr-mame 2003 separately. That turned out to be a bit problematic, as my spinners/dials no longer work at all and, for some reason, cocktail mode (for me anyway) no longer works properly either with lr-mame 2003. (Instead of it being cocktail mode, it flips in the wrong direction so all writing on screen is reversed). I have followed the changes to the wiki for lr-mame 2003, but still can't get the spinners to work.

It's not really a problem insofar as I've got AdvanceMAME to work instead with spinners in cocktail mode and am very happy with that, but it would be good to know whether there is a way to install/reinstall an earlier version of a libretro core. (My backups do not go back far enough unfortunately.)

My system is set out below.

      Thanks.

@spud11 You could download one of the older releases of Retropie - get the .img file, unpack it, then try to mount the .img file and extract the libretro core from there.
You can read it from the Raspberry PI system using kpartx (https://github.com/mozilla-iot/wiki/wiki/Loop-mounting-a-Raspberry-Pi-image-file-under-linux).

i can’t think of any changes to mame2003 that would have done this. i’m not sure i would know how to even if i wanted to :)

          very curious.

@mitu Thanks, mitu. I'll have a look at this.

@dankcushions Hi. I might have misunderstood the information in here:

              https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Spinners,-Trackballs,-Lightguns,-and-other-Mouse-Devices

My reading of this was that, as of September 2017, the legacy inputs (ie "mouse") would be ignored in favour of the "event" inputs, meaning that any dial/spinner inputs set up previously weren't going to work from September 2017.

My recollection is a bit hazy as it's going back 5 or 6 months, but I seem to recall that either in September or October I updated lr-mame2003. (I'm pretty sure I didn't update my whole Retropie system that month). At that time, I didn't test any of the relevant games I've got set up for dial/spinner input (eg Tempest Tubes, Arkanoid). I ended up only testing these games last week when I discovered they no longer worked.

Is it possible that the changes in September 2017 either to Retropie or to lr-mame2003 might have impacted my dial/spinner settings for lr-mame2003?

@dankcushions Hi. Yes, it is a very strange problem - the cocktail issue. It really only seems to happen with Tempest and Tempest Tubes. Not sure why but will probably have a closer look at my settings. It may have something to do with the individual per-rom config files I've got.
