I was kind of tired of seeing the "DIY" arcade cabinets everywhere, so I wanted to do something different. Plus I don't have an elaborate wood working shop to make what I really want to make. I am a huge fan of up-cycling, and this is the culmination of a few months work. I hope you guys get inspiration from this and please let me know if there are any questions!

Here is a link to the album.

@sturo Niiiice idea. :D I like the look and the drawer. I wonder, though, how stable the whole thing is when the drawer is pulled out, especially if one's hands rest on the control panel while playing. Care to elaborate on that?

It's actually really stable. I could have used another drawer slider in the middle, but the two I used were heavy duty slides. The drawer drops a little of you put a lot of weight on it, but I feel it is pretty well balanced.

@sturo Thanks, that wasn't obvious from the photos alone. After all, if the need would arise (or if you get bored), you could add one or two fold-out legs for the drawer.

Yeah I totally could. That's a good idea. The main quirk with the setup is getting the power cord to stay out of the way when sliding the drawer in and out. Haven't quite figured that out yet.

That is totally sick! Great work man!

@sturo I'm no handyman (at all), but two ideas about the cord came to my mind: a retracting cable reel or some kind of cantilever arm behind the monitor that holds the cord up but is elastic enough to bend down when the drawer slides outward.

Awesome build. I love how it fits. Yeah you could have a couple hinged legs that drop when pulled out. So one possible thing to keep the power cord out of the way. Attach something like a spring that is attached to the cord and the case towards the back. So when you try to push the panel back in, the spring will pull the cord back.

All great ideas for the power cord. I consider this a really good learning experience that I will take with me on my next Pi project. I don't really know if I'll ever go back to this one and fine tune it, but if I do, I will definitely try some of the suggestions.

@sturo In my humble opinion, it would very well deserve it. :)
