Trying to hook pi up to led screen

Hello all.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I Had an old AIO Acer that does not work and I've been wanting to use the screen to make a game cabinet. When I opened it up, I saw how the HDMI was plugged into a chip that also ran into the computer. That chip was hooked up to the LCD.

After freeing the computer. (What a pain to take apart this all in one) I tried hooking up the raspberry pi to which the screen does not work. I have a 4 pin port I'm not sure where it goes, but it may not even be needed. This is where I am so far

This is how the computer was originally hooked up to the chip.

So my questions are..

Will this chip work? Any idea how I need it hooked up?
If it won't work, what can I buy to use this screen?

@stera8 It looks like the hi-voltage connectors for the screen back lighting are not connected. I would search on line for the service manual for the computer the screen was taken from. I also searched on line for a controller board for the screen you have and I found something on ebay that should work. You can follow this link and check it out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NT68676-HDMI-DVI-VGA-LCD-Controller-Board-Kit-for-LM230WF1-TLA6-1920X1080-/121756886581 I reused a screen from a dead laptop by getting a controller off ebay. You can take the number from the back of your screen for your research (LM230WF1).

Ok... So I looked up what was posted and it seemed as if I Had those already. This Acer AIO AZ5101 is tough to look up. I couldn't find a service manual.

However I read the chips and the cables where I found a cable that said inverter on it and a plug port on the chip that was labeled INV.

When I set it up like the picture below I hear a buzzing power sound from the chip that the HDMI is plugged into but no picture. I just want to rule out that these parts won't work before I purchase the new controller board.

Could the plugs be in the wrong spots at all? Do the inverter plugs have a certain way to plug in?

Could I need a higher volt power adapter? Right now I have the basic power adapter (5v) for the pi. Maybe I need a higher volt for the screen.

@stera8 The connectors for the inverter should be keyed making it hard to plug in wrong but make sure they are plugged in all the way. I can't tell how you are powering the screen from the pictures. Are you using the power supply that came with the AOI?

@glennlake the only power I have is the 5v running to the pi. I wasn't sure if power ran directly into that board. No plugs on the power supply run into it.

When on the computer, the power supply ran into the motherboard and then the motherboard ran into the chip.

I do see that there is a port labeled on the chip HDMI 1 and 5A/12V. It has this connection.

Originally on the computer this was not connected to anything. I guess I need to figure out a way to get power to this board. I believe it's to this port but not sure which cable.

Maybe I should give up and purchase the controller board the two of you recommend

@stera8 Sometimes starting with a clean slate with a new control board is your best answer. I am somewhat hesitant to suggest this but what I would try to do is power the screen from the motherboard just as a test to see if the screen works. I think you should be able to get the 12v you need to power the screen unless that's what failed on your AIO computer. Just be careful not to touch or short anything. This brings me back to my "Shade-tree PC fix'n" I use to do :-)

I have made many LCD and similar projects. Anytime I guessed on things, the end result usually was smoke and a guarantee the project isn't going to work. Sometimes doing it right is the only way it will be done right. If you keep guessing and not knowing with 100% certaintly what you are plugging, why, where.... you might as well toss it in the trash can now.

The INV connection is for the backlight inverter. All I have used require a input to turn off blanking.

If you don't have a datasheet on the screen and controller, you HAVE to have it. Even if that means buying a controller.

@monel_funkawitz I agree that a new controller is the easiest and safest way to get an old screen working. I was suggesting the use of the motherboard to power up the screen just test the screen. At this point we don't know if the screen is the reason the computer didn't work in the first place. I would hate for someone to buy a $30 controller only to find out the screen itself is dead. :-)
