MAME 0.78u5 'Lite' DAT File: mame2003-lr-lite (working, no clones, neogeo, PlayChoice/NES multiplay, no rotary/dial/trackball/lightgun controls, no casino/multiplay/quiz/mahjong/fruit_machines/rhythm/mature)
This dat does not include neogeo games
-
@grant2258 it says " no clones, neogeo"
-
it also says
(working, no clones, neogeo, PlayChoice/NES multiplay, no rotary/dial/trackball/lightgun controls, no casino/multiplay/quiz/mahjong/fruit_machines/rhythm/mature)
if it didnt have neogeo it should read
no clones/neogeo,
its obviously just a typo was more to let you guys know it looks like neogeo, PlayChoice/NES multiplay is included.
-
No offense, but it’s worded correctly. And has been for many years.
It is listed as a sentence structure. As in /None of this, this, or this/ And None of this, that, and the other.
This set has been around for a long time and so has this dat. You just need to get used to the structure. It is rather descriptive.

@chuckyp
lets break it up in lines where the comma is
working,
no clones,
neogeo,
PlayChoice/NES multiplay,
no rotary/dial/trackball/lightgun controls,
no casino/multiplay/quiz/mahjong/fruit_machines/rhythm/mature)why is the only ones missing no
working ,
neogeo,
PlayChoice/NES multiplay,I know there not there but it doesnt read right to me I guess your taking the satnce because of the first no. Its no big deal just misleading that was the point

working ,
neogeo,
PlayChoice/NES multiplay,I wondered that myself, but took it as a mere negligence since other certainly included game groups aren't listed either. The sentence structure mentioned by @ChuckyP may have been the intend of the author(s), but without the appropriate conjunctions it may be misunderstood. All in all, I would recommend to add "no"s to neogeo and PlayChoice (edit: or remove all "no"s but the first one), but I also could live happily ever after if it remains the way it is. :)

I've been updating the mame2010 section of this doc today and I saw this thread.
I have agree that the descriptions of the DATs is awkward -- I think the English language can do better to communicate the contents of those DAT files. That said, the simple edits I just made earlier to improve their clarity could probably be improved even further.
Please feel free to take a look and make your own edits as well, since I'm not highly vested in the project. Just trying to copyedit to a standard of accessible technical prose in an incremental way.

im happy with the way things are it isint a deal breaker its all down to interpretation. I didnt mean any offense at was just pointing it out
-
@markwkidd It's much more clear now (to me), thanks!
@grant2258 Pointing out perceived flaws is a vital part for eventual improvement, if done politely and objectively.
-
is crystal clear to me now as well :)

can someone delete this post it wont lem me do it thanks
im not sure if this is the right thread or if i should start another one ive made a little script to grab all the mame2003 game names from the dat and compare them to the catver.ini
The good news all games are there the script removes the old useless . mameversions added and only leaves us to check [Category] after the script runs it checks the diff from mame.dat and cleaned up cat.ini
the results are this
*** catnames.list 2018-03-11 10:06:55.372118451 +0000
--- datgames.list 2018-03-11 10:06:57.642114592 +0000

you can confirm this by typing

I think this would be better placed in a new thread, as this one is about the MAME 2003 entry in the docs.
