Mouse/Trackball udev error
-
I am getting errors when trying to load a trackball supported game in Mame2003, for example centipede. I have read a lot of posts on this topic and tried everything suggested...nothing has worked for me so far.
/dev/shm/runncommand.log snippet;
[ERROR] [udev] Failed to open device: /dev/input/event6 (Invalid argument).
[INFO] [udev]: Mouse #0 (/dev/input/mouse1).
[ERROR] [udev] Failed to open device: /dev/input/event9 (Invalid argument).
[INFO] [udev]: Mouse #1 (/dev/input/mouse2).
[ERROR] [udev] Failed to open device: /dev/input/event4 (Invalid argument).
[INFO] [udev]: Mouse #2 (/dev/input/mouse0).The trackball in question is mouse 0 / event 4. Works fine when testing, but never in a game.

Retropie 4.3Can anyone tell me what the UDEV ERRORS are and how to fix them please?
Apologies for the length of this post, and if I have broken a forum rule, this is my first posting.

Hi All
No takers? I know lots of people have had trouble with setting up a mouse/trackball. Did no-one ever solve their issues?
I can cat /dev/input/*** and find my trackball is mouse0 event4
What does the ERROR failed to open device mean?Like other posters, I can get the trackball working as a mouse in Amiga emulation and Pi desktop, but never in Mame2003...at least it was working before I upgraded from RP4.2 to RP4.3
I have tried the config in both the Arcade folder and the Mame2003 folder, plus tried changing the config in config/all/retroarch.cfg...none of the changes I make seem to make any difference at all.
Really would appreciate any help with this please.
Thanks

Sorry nobody could help me with this.
I have fixed the problem. -
Hi Metalhead
Could you share with us what you did to solve the problem ?

Hello jancolle
And there was me thinking nobody else has ever had this issue...
I simply rolled back to RP4.2 and it's fine. No matter what config I tried in RP4.3 it does not work with a usb trackball, certainly not the one I have. Works fine again. My advice, is don't upgrade. If it ain't broke, you don't need to fix it. -
Thanks a lot. I have also tried a lot of configs without any luck, all on 4.3.
I will test with a 4.2 installation.
