Does RP3+ handle retropie in 1080p ?
-
hello there
i wonder ... if its possible to output retropie in 1080p using latest RP3+ ?
i have no clue how to do it, but maybe someone with advanced knowledge could test it ? ;)
it would be awesome
cheers -
RetroPie has always output a signal of 1080p unless otherwise specified in the config. The rendering resolution for emulators is another story. 2D emulators simply don't have HD native resolutions as far as I know, nor do you need it to be. They are simply up-scaled. GPU intensive emulators such as N64 and above simply cannot be rendered natively at HD resolutions at playable speeds on the Pi3 or Pi3+ because of the limitations of the GPU.

its wierd. im using my rp3 with a 1080p monitor and i have got a black frame all around when in retropie gui (not in emulators) so it cannot be 1080p.

@xflesk It is outputting to 1080p. What you are describing is known as "underscan". You can adjust overscan/underscan in settings. Here is the guide page:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Overscan
Check the section "My image has a border!", that should pertain to your issue.

@piboy thank you very much ;) it seams im not so deep into retropie yet ;) i was sure it outputting in 720p. my mistake

@xflesk It's a common issue. I had the exact same problem when outputting to my Dell monitor. I have spent far more time building tinkering with my RetroPie setup than I have actually using it.

Hi,
I had something similar with an LG 55 inch TV. Found a setting on the TV itself to tell it a PC was attached via that particular HDMI port. After that HAPPY DAYS!!
