With the Libretro Magnavox Odyssey2 emulator, some roms are completely playable with a controller except for having to initially press "1" on a keyboard for number of players. Is it possible to launch an emulator such as this with joy2key enabled and a controller button mapped to a keyboard "1" key?
I've been searching the forum for a method to start and configure joy2key when an emulator is launched, then kill it when the emulator closes.

It could be done through the runcommand-onstart.sh script. I wrote a guide on how to accomplish this with xboxdrv. It has key-mapping functionality beyond what you'll find in joy2key. Another option that seems to be pretty versatile is Linux Joystick Mapper, although I've never put the time into learning it. I have my Odyssey² system set up to have the 0-9 number keys mapped to my right thumbstick and it works very well.
