      Hi,

I installed vice for the C64 retropie on my Linux mint, but the games run slow and sound is suttering. As Hardware I'm using a slow Samsung N150 Netbook, but SNES runs smoothly without performance issues. Maximum speed is set to 100%, Refresh rate to automatic. Any ideas what I could try to or is the Netbook to slow for a good experience with vice?

@10vorne i use lr-vice. No slowdown or stutter. Its a big reason why i hated standalone vice. Plus lr-vice lets you use a virtual keyboard and analog stick for a mouse.

Ok, you are right. I got no issues with lr-vice. But the mouse stops in the upper before the upper 1/3 of the screen, so the mousepointer stops at an invisble wall. And I cannot move the pointer with my usb-pad (without analog stick). So for example I cannot swap joystick ports. It seems not possible to control the gui without a mouse or an analog stick?!

@10vorne Try switching to the faster sid emulation. There are a few options in the settings that can affect performance. The default SID emulation on X86 is quite CPU intensive.

Hi BuZz, thanks for joining. You mean the sid settings in vice-x64 or lr-vice? In x64 I did not find any Sid-Settings and there are no perfomance problems in lr-vice. Or did I get you wrong?

He's likely talking about the standalone vice-x64. You can disable reSID emulation to get a boost in performance at the cost of some accuracy in sound chip emulation. This is probably already set in lr-vice, which would explain the performance boost despite the added overhead that RetroArch introduces. I have reSID emulation enabled on mine and haven't witnessed any slowdown on my Pi3B, but it could be that your netbook's performance falls below that mark.

That means, that the disable-option is not part of the vice-x64 in emulationstation, correct?

It's part of vice-x64, but Emulation Station doesn't factor into it. It's set from within the vice-x64 settings menu.
