N64 PRECISE LAGGING

RetroPie v4. 2 for 64bit pc macbook pro mid 2009
I have installed parallel 64 and mupen64glide the first does not work at all the latter blips exactly ever 2 seconds, for example opening screen is rotating nintendo logo, spins for one count stops for count. Doesn't seem to matter what settings I change or which game or even which parts of which game :s its very exact. Currently the same system runs ps1 games fine. Any advice?
